Gear Talk / Re: Surftech Generator v Nalu 11 4
« on: March 25, 2014, 10:51:10 PM »
I have had an 11'6 Nalu for at least 4 yrs now. I don't ride it that much, but I always have fun on it. I'd sell any of my other boards, but I wouldn't sell that Nalu. The board is just a great all arounder. The extra rocker probably does slow it down a little in flat water, but it's a saving grace on a bottom turn. I don't think I've ever pearled that board. For longboard SUS'g, the 10'6 version is the best I've ever surfed. My friend has one, and it's the only board he rides. The whole board is thinner, the tail is pulled in, and it rides like a performer.

SUP Leave,
I've had 2 of those inline 6's. Had a 79' F100 w/ 300-6 - 4 speed manual clutch. That thing made my knee pop in traffic. Had an 84' F150 4WD w/ 300-6 4-speed hydraulic clutch and an 89' F150 automatic -302 V-8. Two more Ford F250 after that. My current one is a 02' crew cab with V10. Just turned 100k.

Those hub caps on your trailer are from a late 70's early 80's Ford.

Thanks SoCal for carrying the torch. Actions speak louder. Steven would be proud. Maybe we should start the ASLU. American SUP Liberties Union. A non-profit with two three purposes: 1. 'Stick it to the haters." 2. Have a common sense approach to the PFD's requirement being optional when leashes are worn. ___3. No class restrictions!!!!!

Same one. He almost never prone surfs anymore. His young sons rip it up on SUPs as well. The Hobie CM raws, stand for Colin McPhillips.

That is a good price. For SUP's I like at least a 38" width fabric. My supplier had a sale on the 3K plain weave 5.8 oz x 50" for $13.99/yd.

Soo, what's wrong with size 15 shoes?

They usually suck, because you can only find them on the clearance table at Big 5 sporting goods. I know, because I'm a size 14.

Well I would have said something different to the guy or nothing at all, but that's just me. This whole tribal thing I can only see holding true in a place like Hawaii or French Polynesia. I grew up at the beach and still live right here. 50 yrs. We are such a melting pot anyway. I only know one guy who surfs occasionally who is a descendant of our local Juaneņo Indian tribe, so he has a say. If you rip, you have the right of way. paddle or not........ Otherwise take your turn.

Funny thing is, time heals. Skiers marring snow boarders. Apples running on Intel processors. Yesterday I was just finishing a distance paddle, heading back into the harbor and came across a couple of newbie SUP'rs. None other that legendary local surfer Henry Ford, and one on the founding members of beach road Wayne Schafer. They said they love paddling more and more everyday, and that it has changed their life....... There is hope.

I bet you're feeling the stoke now. Great looking board. Are you going to glass it?

I usually duct tape my pfd to my board with a ton of tape so it can't come off. That would add just enough weight. ..

Gear Talk / Digital paddle stroke monitor is here....

I just saw this in a Popular Science mag. http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2013/06/checking-power-system.html
They claim it can be modified for use with a SUP paddle.

You could shave the bulk of it down with a razor blade, then try sanding it close to the base. Then use some Acetone to try to get the residue off. You could also sand it all the way to the epoxy handle surface, then use a fine sand paper to bring some shine back to the handle.

Creek, a cheap roll of masking tape, makes a glass job clean and easy. Just peel and and sand the transition. You're done.

QB. It was custom made for me about 5 yrs ago at the warehouse.
