Stay on it RTG!

The PT was concerned at first when he asked how long it stayed sore and I told him pretty much all the time. But then I explained that every time it stops hurting I exercise again. He suggested I give it a day off every now and then, but as long as I am not continuing to push it past the point of mild pain it's fine. I am not making above average progress because I am lucky.

Another update...

I have moved up to the red band plus a half step back so it is stretched further for a little more resistance on low rows, which is about the only exercise I get to do with resistance except for the ones done interactively with PT. But I am doing lots of exercise and stretches with no resistance. PT says I am still rehabbing at about the max rate he is comfortable with. I see the doc next late this month.

The scale has nudged a little lower the last few days. It's too quick to be true body mass (fat) loss; just less in the gut and not as hydrated doing the low sugar/carbs. After the first 3 days, I did allow myself a little sugar, mostly fruit, and some carbs. The plan starts easing them back in.

I have pretty much bottomed out weight wise. This morning I was 151. I might go to 149 just to see that on the scale; I don't think I have been under 150 for 40 years. I am over 70 pounds below what I was a couple of years ago. Anyway, this is a good weight for 5'8" - low 150s. 151 is a BMI of 23.

I'm in the position of finding both Hillary Clinton and Donal Trump entirely unfit for office--any office, but certainly not President of the United States.

Most of the time I vote, the only reason I don't hold my nose is that I need my sense of smell to help me find the least objectionable turd. The two party system sucks, but I won't throw my vote away in protest or the steamer that made my eyes water might get elected. So I voted for Clinton and then went home and took a shower.

I am going down Friday to duck the crowds and do a demo day, assuming shoulder surgery recovery keeps going well. I am planning it to be my first paddle outing. I won't have to load/unload a board or carry it to the water and it will be short paddles with breaks. It's 2 hours each way for me. Parking at WB is never fun on a weekend with good weather. But the earliest I get there is between 8 and 9.

It works best if you apply it using a vacuum infusion process, although it may leave you with a mega-wedgie.

My local witch doctor also sells an aqueous solution in a bag...

A10, you can’t tell much about a person’s wealth from a US income tax return.  Unlike a corporate return, there is no balance sheet, just income items.  It’s just as likely that he is embarrassed about a relatively low income level as he would be having understated his earnings.  And if there was an understatement, he would have amended it by now.  Amended returns are pretty routine here in the US.

Did someone actually sat that determining wealth was the point of seeing the tax returns? There have been allegations of tax fraud, and not just from Cohen. Paper losses that likely would not hold up and other tricks. Questions have been raised about some of the sources of income. If there are no issues, why not just hand them over?

Same here RTG but voted for Trump in opposition of Hillary.  Mostly because I've seen first hand the pitfalls of "socialized medicine".

The problem with McCabe was that he had "trouble with the truth", he showed "lack of candor".  These are all nice ways of saying that he lied while in his official capacity.  That's a huge issue that can not be overlooked, and one that DT himself may soon be facing.  Yes, it will get interesting.

Totally socialized medicine or just single payer?  I think we would be better off with a single payer comprehensive plan, like Medicare for all, but I am against government run health care. But the really odd thing is that my support of it is one reason I didn't like Hillary. She tried hard to be vague about it, but I don't think she would have pushed for single payer. If she were president and congress decided to actually represent their constituents, the majority of whom are in favor of single payer, and put a bill on her desk she would probably sign it. Yes, I know she pushed it in the past but she wasn't sitting at the table, didn't really know the game and owe any favors yet.

It's a shame we have developed such a high tolerance for deceit from government officials. Trump has lowered the bar even further. As much as I liked Obama, who I think is a genuinely good person, he told a few whoppers. Bill Clinton once said that term limits is the only reason he didn't get elected again. He may be right; the peace and prosperity of his tenure was nice and he even managed a surplus budget one year (he was the last to do that). But lying came naturally to him and we all knew it before his second term.

We need to consider McCabes independence from two broad perspectives, independence in-fact but also independence in appearance.

McCabe didn't exactly hit it out of the box with his investigation of Benghazi either...is anyone satisfied that we know all that we should know about the circumstances surrounding Benghazi?

Yeah, I am. There were about a half dozen investigations. My opinion is it could have been handled a lot better, but it wasn't gross negligence. Then Hillary's crew tried to make it sound like the mistake was not her fault. I don't think they crossed the line doing it, but they came pretty close. I am not a Hillary fan. I voted for her because she isn't named Trump. I don't think she should be in jail, but I don't think she was the best candidate the DEMs could have gone with as far as suitability to govern at the highest level.

This is a bit of a long read, but the end of it will give you a pretty clear idea of the likely future of our country.

Jim

Thanks for posting Wetstuff

It is sad that some people with limited access to health care are sometimes tempted to try relatively inexpensive“placebo” therapies have not been rigorously tested by medical researchers. It is worse when the therapy is not benign. For medications taken orally the placebo effect is responsible for up to 30% of positive effect. For “surgical” procedures it is as high as 50%! This was demonstrated elegantly several years ago with arthroscopy for debriding and “cleaning up” painful knee joints. The surgical procedure was no better than the sham surgery where incisions were made but no surgery took place. Fifty percent of the patients with the sham surgery however still showed improvement. Easy for medical practitioners to be fooled into thinking what they are doing is benificial.

 Bob

Even with access to quality health care, it's tempting to try something unproven when you aren't getting the results you hoped for with accepted medical practice. I admit following some click bait links for anti aging products. That is a supplement category that really attracts scammers. Placebo effect is really big in that category also. They tell you the pills alone won't do it; you have to stay active. Staying active often helps people feel younger...

How do Trump supporters view Russia; threat nuetral, or possible ally?

A lot of the Trump supporters I know personally don't view much besides Faux News. Outside of that, they mostly keep their heads in the sand or in some other location that restricts their view in a similar manner.

Try doing intermittent fasting when training for actual performance and you'll realise it's a fools errand real fast. It's well cited now as a means to keep you slimmer but if you want to get the best physically out of yourself I would really not recommend it.

It's quite amusing when you find the need to call yourself out. With further reading, I've learnt I may well now be wrong.

The issue there (which the video link I posted above explains clearly) is that too many of us (me included) view 'fasting' and 'dieting' synonymously. The video explains that its primarily about food intake timing. From people I've actually spoken to about this more recently, the key for those athletically inclined is to ensure you're eating enough to support your training within the non-fasting window and then time your training accordingly. For many that struggle with fasting - they just aren't eating enough or of the right stuff. In other words, we need to be almost having two separate fasting discussions i.e. one regarding weight loss and one regarding health benefits when training athletically.

I am not very afraid of being wrong; I am too impatient to always be right.

I think they are very different also. I think as far as dieting goes, it's whatever floats your boat. Losing weight requires you to consume fewer calories than you burn in a day which really isn't natural. Survival instinct isn't just about fight or flight; it's also about not starving to death, which you will eventually do if you never eat enough to provide energy for your activities. So whatever works best for you to overcome the natural urge to eat more is good.

Health benefits in training is a much more complicated one; I don't know if it is possible to do a truly subjective study. There are so many variables in determining whether training went better for a group that ate certain foods at certain times fared better in their training.

Earth to A10 & RTG. Nobody gives a fuck what you think. That is all.....

your thinking is impressive, illuminating
I have also given up on arguing with entrenched Trump supporters. I can't change their minds and I can't make them right.

From last May but 1st time I've seen it mentioned.
https://bigthink.com/news/mit-study-24-hour-fasting-regenerates-stem-cells-doubles-metabolism

The article makes a wild leap with the doubled metabolism claim; that's nowhere in the study. It says the metabolic activity switches from burning carbs to burning fat.

Fasts and lowered calories have been shown to have benefits beyond weight loss in a few studies. Practicing occasional fasting and/or restricted calories is more common in healthy 90+ year olds than it is in the general population but it is hard to make a strong case for causation versus correlation.
