Be careful down there cowboy! A quick search tells me it’s not the safest place to travel anymore. I spent part of my honeymoon there in “83” and loved it, but time has changed and it isn’t on my places to revisit anymore.😢 FWIW, Maui has room for you and your family!

Damn! Is that Falcon Heavy rocket on loan from Elon? Looks like it’ll have you skipping on the water like a rock.😳

General Discussion / Mahalo Pono

About a month ago we finally got the opportunity to get away from the islands to visit family. We had plans to go in July/August but couldn’t  get time off as summer is the busy time for my line of work. I have wanted to go to hood river for some foiling but realized that wasn’t going to happen. We still went but I didn’t bring gear as the forecast didn’t look good for the time of our visit. We enjoyed our short time there visiting the breweries, hiking, and sampling food from every place we could. One day we took the grandkids to a little park in town. It was a well designed and looked like something I would have enjoyed if I were a kid. While there I was reading the list of those who made donations to make this park. I saw this sign and it caught my eye. Mahalo Bill! My grandson loved it.Your generosity made a difference 🤙

I went down this incredible rabbit hole of Downwind foiling and never looked back.
I can’t wait to see where it goes in the next few years and really hope I am able to still be doing it.

You better hurry and get it all back together and use it before you change your mind and give it a whole new look. Aka The FunMobile

A friend who rides Naish gear gave me an old kite race board a few years back. It had 4 dangerously long Tuttle Fins in it. Decided to attempt to make a prone Foilboard out it. (Another story) It did have a blunt looking tail.

Longtime kiter. Agree with all that was said above. I would add checking for stickers that can still be stuck in the leading edge. When you have located the general area by using the soapy water, remove the bladder and repair the pinhole but also feel inside and out the leading edge with fingers or some cheesecloth or similar material. ( it will snag on the sticker if still penetrating the LE.) You may make the bladder repair and reinstall it and find that the sticker is still there and it will Leak again. Don’t ask me how I know 😬
Ps. Sand inside the bladder or between bladder and LE can eventually cause a leak as well.

Not a winger but hoping to get one to prone on.

Great to hear you are able to continue doing something that you enjoy. I hope to do the same when I reach 70. I’m going to savor every session in the water until I can’t.🤙

Thanks for all the responses! So it sounds like it would be best gorilla gluing the HD foam in without any glass. I’m gathering that any glass/carbon wouldn’t really adhere to the underside of deck glass or give any structural benefit? If that is so I will source the materials and get started next weekend.

The Shape Shack / R&R of Foil tracks
« on: June 14, 2021, 08:31:15 PM »
I’m totally satisfied with my Pandemic Project board. I have about 2 dozen downwinders on it now and no issues.
So I have a new project before me. I have another foilboard that I have noticed the mast has some flex in when mounted to it. Looking closer I believe it is slowly delaminating around the tracks. Sooooooo.... here is my crazy idea. I want to avoid cutting the lamination on the deck side of board. Could I #1-  Remove tracks/eps from bottom of board to underside of deck laminate (which is Carbon) and then #2- laminate carbon to underside of deck first and then drop in HD foam block with tracks. #3 laminate carbon over repair etc. ???  My concern is bonding to the existing deck lam.
Will it work? Mahalo to all the garage builders and those who professionals who share their knowledge.

Foil SUP / Re: Switch to Prone (Pros/Cons)
« on: May 03, 2021, 10:27:06 PM »
I keep threatening to give the prone game a real shot and planned to get into it this spring/summer, then Fluffy showed back up this week. She's still 12' and a little rounder in the middle since last summer, but aren't we all. She kept lurking at Nukes all afternoon today and gave me a nice big fat profile view in the face of a set wave that came my way. I know statistically we are more likely to be killed by bees or lightening than a shark, but I bet she doesn't know that.
Yep, it can be a bit of a mind game especially when your 1/4 mile or more offshore sitting on your prone board with water up to your waist. Can’t just raise your legs and rest them on top like a sup. Laying on the board ain’t much better as now your life giving organs are a nibble away. A few more bodies in the water helps a bit but in the back of my mind I can’t help but think getting back to shore may be the last thing I do. So....screw it and enjoy while you can! Take the best precautions you can but don’t stop enjoying what you like.
