Couldn't resist this one... as it reminds me of several folks I know...
"single concave to double concave, to displacement, triple concave, stinger channel, to deep vee in the tail."
"I think I've advanced the industry 30-40 years by showing them what doesn't work"
I apologize if its already been posted somewhere...

Did a search for this topic, but not much chatter since 2010...
What are the best ear-buds for waterproof/staying put/sound quality? I have tried my wife's H20 Audio & the sound quality blows...
And waterproof isn't the highest priority for me... I'm using these primarily for flat water paddling and stay pretty dry.
Any new products out there that are decent? Thanks folks...

I was killing some time at the grocery store today while my wife shopped... picked up a Surfer Magazine and thumbed through...
First, zero ads for SUP (which is totally ok with me, their right) but they do have ads for Wave Jet Propulsion surfboards... I find this a bit comical; promote a battery powered machine that does the work for you, but not a human powered paddle board (-:
Second, an article about Kai Lenny, but the only picture they print is him on a prone surfboard.
Third, an article about Joe Barks son, possibly one of the biggest pioneers of our sport.
Just found it amusing.
Then came home and watched this video about Gerry Lopez who always puts things in perspective for me...
Cheers!

I tried to keep this video nice and short so you wont be bored to tears of yet another DW video...
I fun bay crossing with my buddy who is on a surf ski and was nice enough to go slow with me.
Not an epic day, wind steady at about 20-25 knots.

The inventor of the prolific 'Ocean Kayak' brand plastic sit-on-tops just started another company... he lives in my town, so I've seen them on the water a few times... They are heavy, but super stable and bomber tough... They'll find a niche somewhere... http://origamipaddler.com

Yes you can. I spent yesterday paddling with several severely burned children at our annual burn camp. This kid insisted on using my paddle because it was a "race" paddle and also insisted on using this very tippy sail board, because it looked "the fastest." He was on it for almost 2 hours.
What's your excuse?

Strava is a cycling or running app for iPhone, Android and Garmin... I know there may be better GPS programs out there, but I'm loving this for it's ease of use. The only down side, is that its a cycling app, but for me, thats ok, because all I really want to see is max speed, avg, speed, distance and the course mapped out. So far it is incredibly accurate when I've compared it to my Garmin device. And its totally free. Here is an example from a small, local race I did today... http://www.strava.com/segments/dan-harris-short-course-sup-paddle-1302241I have e-mailed them and asked them to consider adding a paddling/rowing option, they said they are working on it.

This probably belongs in "Shape Shack" but oh well. Been working on a 14' board since Christmas... Wanted to make something rock-solid that would perform well in many race conditions... like a Bark Dominator, but faster (-: Came up with the "Hooligan." 26.5" X 14' Carbon rails over glass. 26 pounds w/o fin and pad... nothing special weight wise. Very stable... Here are some pics, but the entire process from CNC machining to finish can be seen here... http://www.paddlesurfnorthwest.com/2012/03/creation-of-race-board.htmlCheers!

Showed up to surf the other day, and it was quite small, like knee to waist high, but happened to have my 2010 Surftech Bark Competitor on the truck. Decided what the hell & took it out. The last time I surfed a race board (besides downwind) was at the 2009 BOP and it didn't go so well for me (-: In this small, mushy stuff, it worked very well and I could catch anything with very little effort.. The Larry Allison Elite Gladiator fin made it a bit tricky to turn, but I don't turn much anyway... made it a really fun day...
The video is as short as the waves were tall...

I'm sure we can come up with some quotes to poke fun at ourselves... bring it! "I'm 50 pounds overweight, but I really think getting a paddle thats 100 grams lighter will take me to the next level."

We have had some great wind here lately (as long as you aren't going into it). This is from two days ago with sustained wind around 30mph... we missed the higher winds of 40mph two hours earlier... We do a 6 mile run down Lake Whatcom. Not bad rides considering it's a lake.

While we were building our latest custom race board, we had to decide what to do about drainage in the footwells. Since our standing area was essentially at water line, any water coming into the footwells in rough conditions was slow to drain from the 1 inch drain holes.
This might not seem like a huge deal to have a little water on board, but I did some calculations with a measuring cup. The footwells are rather large, and filling each footwell with only 1/2 inch of water equated to 24 cups of water, or approx. 12 pounds of water! You can do the math... imagine 3 inches of water not draining after each wave comes over the top... 72 pounds! Making your 30 pound board weigh over 100 pounds. Obviously, this does not equate to efficient movement through water.
Just something to think about next time you look down and see a "little water" in the recessed cockpit of your race board.
