This was a used board, the shapers personal board, and I got it for less than the materials would have cost me.  It's all good.  I just thought I should put it out there to reinforce the need for connection to both top and bottom of a board.

Track came loose from everything except bottom skin.  When I move the mast back and forth the cassette rocks inside.  I opened the top and discovered that there is only eps between the cassette and the top skin.  I am thinking I will gorilla glue a chunk of 6 lb pour foam that is already cured between the cassette and the top skin.

Mine is definitely too big.  I am an inch or two over the water.  And it weighs 23 lbs.   It was also kind of hard to reach all the way over the side with a vertical paddle.  May be I could get used to it. 

I've added a leash plug and traction pad so maybe I'll give it a try in the surf tomorrow.  I may never ride it again but I am curious if it will work at all.

I've already bought a 15 lb 6'10" foil board from Kirk at L41.

What kind of electric sander should I buy?  This thing needs a lot of sanding.

 How about a 5 inch random orbital palm sander?  I don't see many boards in my future but I would like to use the sander in the future on foils.

Aspect ratio is width over length.  So wide and skinny front to back is high aspect ratio.

Seems like a great idea to mold the mast and plate as one piece.  Should be stronger and you avoid the stress of trying to get it on straight.

Hi surfcowboy, 
I have had no failures even while river wave foiling with the added stress of boils and turbulence.  I first make a square carbon fiber tube that matches my fuselage insert.  This is created from both carbon cloth and carbon tow making sure I have all vectors covered.  The tubes have about 1/8" thick walls maybe a tad thicker.   This tube is then surrounded by a fill composed of milled fibers and microballoons, extending probably 2-2.5 inches on either side of the tube.  Look at the pics again on the Diy sup foil pages.  The original cords extend into this fill up to the tube.  I cut out the portion of cords only where the tube inserts.  Seems to be bomber.  I will know more when I test this new 32 inch wide wing.  I'm going to use 2 layers of fiberglass over the foam and fill to sand to spec followed by 2 layers of carbon 3K twill.  The substructure of carbon lacing, while very rigid, really does not show its full strength until the fill is added.  (microballoons or 2 part polyurethane foam.)

The connections are the most daunting part of a home build.  So far I haven't been happy with any of mine.
