purchasing one of these will suck a whole lotta money from a person--might even make a sucker out of a person, at these prices

but seems a decent concept for a quick attach rack that doesnt need to be mounted fulltime--so it's in the car, stowed, not impacting gas mileage even when nothing is racked

cant stand the thru the window soft racks--for a quick run down to the beach, ya--but i took one on a road trip and it was a PITA

take good care of any of your people who might be afflicted

check in on them often, and make you they know youre out there, you care about them, you have their back, and you will be there if they need you--there is research that says this helps depressed people more than meds or talk therapy

excellent piece of equipment--near new condition--flown 10 or 15 times--never crashed

had huge fun with it for a brief while--now bored with it, it gathers dust

So steal this favorite board of mine!

It's been my goto for prolly 50 sessions, so it aint perfect--in fact it's got some wear on it.

But it's dry inside with a few repairs, all solid, and the pad has plenty left in it.

Stock fins are in excellent shape.

I am selling this board so i dont grab it each time i surf.

Gotta focus on my new starby pro and my barra, and with the creek dialed in such as it is...........

I plan to buy a new, shorter creek, but want to wait a while.

Brooklyn Blowout at 1800 Buckeroos. Great board--I just realized I am strictly a SUP surfer.

New meat:
Starboard Blue Carbon Airborn Widepoint 8'8", fair condition with a couple of solid ding repairs. Watertight, never wet inside. Surfs great.
Brooklyn Blowout at 750 Buckeroos. Great board, moved my progression significantly, but I am wed to my Creek and dialing in a new 8'3" for cleaner stuff.

Pickup in Brooklyn--possible i can meet in far eastern CT or RI, if serious.

Gear Talk / Sunova Creek 8'10"--Review

Me: 59YO, 6’2, 188, in decent shape, solid intermediate SUP surfer, Progressive Democrat

I tend to be a bit of a one-board guy. Where others may enjoy trying out a variety of boards, I prefer to go with what has seemed to work.  Don’t ever want to risk wasting any waves fussing with gear. Very reticent to move skills backwards, while adjusting to a new board, especially if I have fun on incumbent.

First one-board was 8’10” Fanatic AllWave LTD. Great board, still my goto in FL, where I keep it at my Dad’s house. Most recent was the Starboard Airborn 8’8”.

Next, last Fall I bought an 8’10 Sunova Creek. Took me a while to get on the thing. First ride, the board was a bit tippier than my very stable Airborn, and I was into full winter rubber, so I waffled, and ended up sticking with the Airborn. The Creek had moments where it felt great, but adjustment vs the Airborn was still big.

Finally, dropped my Airborn from its storage loft and crunched one corner of the bat tail. Brooklyn aint got no repair shops, so repaired myself as always, which takes a couple weeks of incompetence and dry/sand timing issues. So I had no choice but to ramp it up with the Creek.

First takeaway: I have a Starboard Airborn 8’8” Blue Carbon for sale. Great board, decent shape, served me very well, given my progression. Much as I hate experimenting with new boards, once used to the Creek, when I went back to the airborn, after repair complete, it was clear the Creek was the new one-board!

I am totally over the relative tippiness, and any slight add’l challenge paddling into waves, full winter rubber be damned!—nbd after first solid session.

What’s become completely apparent, after 7 or 8 sessions in good chest and higher waves, is that I have quickly become a much better surfer on the Creek. I turn with greater ease and more rail/fin set. Where drops are too steep to scoot across the face early, I am now doing bottom turns, foot solid on the stomp, swinging back to the face—no spinout, no skatey flat feel, just hold, snap and accelerate. And where I can get across face early, I am now turning on face so much more, getting elementary cutbacks, and actually decent floaters—frontside and back. Speed on face is also best I have ever felt. I make fast sections now, where, on the airborn, I certainly would have kicked, straightened out or just dumped. I am still surprised when, foot on stomp, spread super wide and low, rail grabbed at times, I make waves that I would never have on my other boards. Makes a guy shake head and hoot! "Shit, i made that steep section!"

As to what the special sauce is? I am the last guy to have good insight there. I will say that the basic outline/shape of the board seems just right--tail of the Speed, not the Acid. Slim and svelte but just wide enough to not be too tippy paddling in. I wonder if the add’l surface area that contacts the water, due to the channels, tempers tippiness? As well, the geometry of the board as the tail/fin/ channel area transitions into the heft of the mid section, with consideration of rocker, simply works. I see it when I look at the board. It looks right—and certainly feels right on the wave. Feels to me like that is the area of the board responsible for the newfound acceleration I get from it.

Further, now that I am used to the board, I actually like the nose and shape for tougher paddleouts. But for occasional jaunts to a lovely NE pointbreak, I surf beach breaks with jetties local to me, so plenty of action paddling out. Board pierces and slides over whitewater nicely.

Now it’s likely that I was due for a bump in skills and would have kept improving on the airborn. But much of my obvious recent skill uptick has to be credited to the Creek. It is just the right board for me, right now.

Net, the Creek is my new one-board, which it will likely remain for a long while. It’s headed to Guiones next month, where things btwn us will only get better (tho, jeeze weve had nice waves up here this March).

today was forecast to be super windy and big--too windy--wind lighter tomorrow but with swell dropping off quickly

figured only reasonable window would be tomorrow dawn

just checked cam and it's big and buff, handling whatever wind with no issue--few people in......

torture to see---stuck unable to reverse plan and lv work.

SUP General / Shark Sighting

was surfing spanish house in fl monday early morning with a proner buddy

first, appx 400 yds away, about 1 oclock looking out to sea, i saw something very big and dark break the surface. it was flopping around a bit, such that i couldnt see any real detail, but whatever it was, it was big.

in my usual haunts in NE, this would always prove to be a whale, as we have had many move through this past year. dolphins in NE are frequently seen but obviously dolphins, given their look and style of swimming-- but also bc they are always in pods of at least 10.

next. like 15 mins later, at about 11 oclock, much closer, like 250 yards, i saw disturbance in the water, followed by a huge fish breaching and flipping over. Its bottom side was white, and the bottom view seemed to show the two pectorals. My proner friend, of course, couldnt see what I saw. He was not concerned and said "they feed on turtles out there and often breach when they hit them from below". I kept surfing, despite wondering if I was crazy to be in the water with something huge feeding close by. I tend to try not to fall, and climb back on my board quickly, when in FL, given the number of sharks Ive see from shore and in the water. But these were always spinners and smaller black tipped reef sharks etc. This thing was a monster. Needless to say I scurried back on board faster than ever after a few closeouts! (as thought thbeing on the board was any real protection).

Went home and learned that many great whites have been tracking up and down the FL atlantic coast. Then googled image of "greast whites breaching" and it was clear I had seen a very big white feeding nearby me.

oh well

my proner buddy lives right at sebastian and is a big ocean swimmer--he swims out and around monster hole regularly! GW's are tracked there all the time

oh well
