I couldn't ride a waveski for very long even now. My back can't take sitting like that and my legs and feet would fall asleep after 30 minutes or so.

I can't prone surf because of tendinitis in my shoulder and herniated discs in my back and neck.

Stand up is the easiest thing for me. So far I've had no issues. The moment I get on the board I feel like I'm 18 again.

Although I've known about Motorhead for decades, I only started really listening to them in the last five years or so.

I always enjoyed hearing what Lemmy had to say in interviews.

Another thing about the World Wide 8'5 is that the bright yellow deck pad has faded considerably since I bought it only nine months ago, all except for the two spots where I usually stand. This will no doubt make the board less desirable to prospective buyers when the time comes to sell it.

Second, the deck pad started coming off at the tail back in August and I had to glue it back on.

Both these things should not have happened from a company well known for its high level of quality.

XXX is also a designation for the purity of moonshine whiskey which might apply better to the logo on the boards. I see it as pure performance.

Sunova SUP / Re: Flow vs Soul - How do they compare?

I've narrowed it down to the 8'7 Flow.

121 liters is still a bit high for my 165lbs but it might work with this board shape.

The 30 1/4" width should provide more stability than my World Wide 8'5 which has much thicker rails.

These numbers are so borderline though, that it will definitely require a demo to be sure.

I just saw on the Flow page where it says at the bottom "all prices are in AUD. please ask us for other currencies". Kind of hard to notice down there. Easy to miss.

It doesn't say it for the other boards though. Just the Flow. Must be a work in progress.

I'm 6'1  165lbs and ride the World Wide 8'5.

It's a great board in clean conditions but can be a real challenge in the chop, mostly I believe due to its volume. The nose and tail are very thin which puts the majority of the volume in the center resulting in a fairly thick board with thick rails for riders of our weight. I think the 8'5 would be best suited for someone in the 190 to 200 pound range.

Aside from the volume, I really love the board and the way it rides. I just wish Jimmy made them in 105 liters. I could have gone with the 8'1 but that would be getting a bit too short and narrow for me.

Right now I'm considering the Sunova Flow 8'7 x 30 1/4 @ 121liters. The nose and tail look a little wider than the World Wide which might help spread out the volume a bit. It's also less thick overall which should help a lot.

I really need to demo one. If the 8'7 is still too floaty for me, I'll just have to go with a custom 105 liter version.

I think picking up a new board at some point down the road is inevitable.  ;)

It all depends on how quickly you progress.

A new board Rick?

Which one is that?

After surfing the with AkeG today, I took a nice flatwater paddle on the Ogunquit River.

He did a fair amount of flat water paddling on the board before he ventured out into the surf.

That's what I tell everyone who is starting out. Spend the first few sessions away from the ocean on perfectly flat water with zero swell and just paddle around for a couple hours getting the feel of the board. The shorter the board, the more time you need on flatwater.

It's the same with snowboarding. I tell them to just stay on the bunny slope the first day or two and don't even attempt to go on the mountain. It's beneath some people to do this but it's the fastest way to learn.

I also thought of myself as a waterman when I started stand up but had very little surfing experience.

I weigh 165 and had no trouble turning my 155 liter 9'4 x 31.5 Angulo Surfa. That's the board I really learned to surf on. It was super stable and I think that is the key to learning fast. It's a great board to learn on. If I had gotten the 8'5 x 30 that I have now instead, I would have spent most of 2014 falling.

I wouldn't recommend going much shorter than 9' for your first board but the key thing is stability.

I know it probably seems like you can't sell them fast enough but I think Sunova is going to lose a lot of potential customers if they don't correct the misleading Australian prices on the website.

It should at least say AU after the price.
