Good advice Carib,  I tend to avoid "hot spots" and seek peaceful places. I like things simple.

Thanks Eastbound.  I'm sure I'll be adding a Rip Stick to my paddle quiver sometime during the summer.  We've really put our Werner paddles through a lot and I'm always impressed with how well they hold up. Just picked up two more Nitro paddles for the family.  Usually don't see them marked down but they changed that line a bit so I think the dealer I got them from is getting in the the new models soon.

Thanks, when the time comes I'm just going to take one long road trip down the Florida coast. I have practically no knowledge of the coast except for a few hot spots that I've heard of.  Looking forward to checking it out sometime in the not too distant future.

Ichabod, I would be interested to hear about any potential retirement areas in Florida.  I'm 58 and looking to retire in two years. Although my wife doesn't have much interest  in he place I want to spend time down there in the cold months.
Absence makes the heart grow fonder!
Weed, great suggestion on the trailer!

Glad to hear you're liking the Rip Stick. We have three Werner paddles and they have held up really well in the surf. I'm currently using the Werner Fuse 110 sq in and was wondering if the Rip Stick 89 would be too small for my 200 lb body. Guess I could learn how to paddle faster. I really like that Werner paddles are made in the USA. I do not know if that is currently true for any other brands

Great video, thanks for sharing!

Since we've all really enjoyed this thread so much.
Maybe you guys should try to crowd fund the next trip.
Heck I'd be in for five dollars.

Great Pictures, can't wait to get back out!

You are one brave man Creek.

I came across an older video and was wondering if the rails in the current SUPs are made the same way as the one in the surfboard shown in the video below.

OK, a brief mini review of the Speeed 9'5" here.  I'll give a full review in the Gear Section when I've had more time on it.
I got the board in October (Thank you JimK).
Me 57 yrs. old 5'10" and about 200lb dry.
I had gotten out on it once in October in small choppy surf and was impressed with the speed and maneuverability. Although at that time I felt a little bit shaky with the Thruster set up.  Since I didn't have time to get the board even "semi wired" that day I unfortunately chose to take my 11'2" Starboard Blend out the last two times that I got out in good waves. I put a really big fin on it in the fall to give me a bit more stability.
My seventeen year old son told me I was crazy for taking that board and just needed a little more time on the Speeed. I tend not to listen to him since he's seventeen and breaks things, lots of things, but this time he was right. (He is a paddle board instructor in the summer and spends countless hours on boards)
So anyway I took the board out today in ankle to slightly over knee surf, and had a blast. Being in a thick wetsuit and used to a large single fin I expected to fall or feel unstable a lot.  That didn't happen. The board is very stable and I now understand the term "secondary stability". As the board rolls there seemed to be a point at which the stability increases and the rolling subsides.  It did take some getting used to but after an hour the action became predictable and my comfort level rose tremendously.
Even in the small waves the board was fast and amazingly easy to turn.  On the six or so BIG waves that were "thigh high" the board flew and was rock solid.  I am now dying to get out on this board in some decent surf.
I will say that my son took the board out on two days when we did have clean chest high waves and he now prefers the Speeed over any of the boards I currently own including an 8'10" Carbon Starboard Wide Point that he totally rocks on. (He wants me to lose weight, get in better shape, and buy a smaller Speed).
I will give a complete review in the future but for now if you can meet up with these guys and try one of the Sunova boards I think you'll be very impressed.
I'm waiting for a review on the Flow.

Creek, I'm glad you'll be making a stop on Long Island.  I have the 9'5" speed due to you.  I got it in October and have only gotten out on it once in small choppy surf.  It was even fun in that surf.  My son has taken it out in some really nice chest high surf and had a fantastic time. He loves it!
Unfortunately I cannot be at Glacier Bay tomorrow.  I did stop by there today and let Mike know the board is awesome and the quality of construction is superb.
Good luck on your trip.

Thanks for the tip.
Session Saver states "works on epoxy and polyester" but makes no mention of foam type.

Yeah, my son wanted me to fill the crack with Session Saver first. The process may have gone smoother if I did.
Ultimately I did learn a lot from the experience so I'm glad for that.

Your dedication and progress are so impressive!  I never would have thought anyone could start on a board that small.
Keep posting!
