Hey DJ, is there any documentation about the Goretex vent?  Does it need to be replaced every so often?

No need to replace.

This stuff works. I love it on the nose of my board. It's just thin plastic stick on sheets with some frosted finish that grips when wet.

No padding though.

I'd look at the new production Surftech Bark and Jamie Mitchel. They are cheap (for raceboards) at $2075 retail. You'll take less of a beating on resale later on, than say buying a $2500 custom. What you'll want a year into the sport is likely to change, so I'd go with something production and current. Those two are very "current" as they just hit shops two weeks ago.

I gave up on Maxfeild. He never followed through with his promises.

He's just reselling the Xtrac pad. Buy direct from Xtrac.

Has anyone else found the pad slippery, or is it just me and this one board?

YES it is slippery.

Please Naish, give is the same white deck pad regardless of what factory it comes from. The good pad that came on my 9'3 Hokua!  ;D

I had to wax my Mana pad. Wax works better than you might think. It soaks in, adds traction, and doesn't cause sand to stick and gum up. It stays pretty clean.

Gear Talk / Re: Naish Nalu Bamboo 9'0" recommended for a beginner?

The price is good because it probably isn't selling. It's way too marrow for 99% of the population.

Demo and decide for yourself. If they won't let you demo, shop someplace else.

I've got one friend about 215 lbs and 6'4. He's a little unstable on certain days. I have another friend about 6' and 230 lbs. He's totally comfortable on any day.

Both own the 9'5

I'd say you're OK if a good athlete. You're near the limit for easy comfort.

Gear Talk / Re: Isup - differences between C4 and Uli?
« on: July 20, 2010, 08:55:03 AM »
I didn't look too close at the difference in the boards, but the difference in the pumps is huge. ULI having the best pump. Without a great pump, you're in big trouble when on a far away vacation.

The C4 pump still had a plastic shaft. Boo, kitesurfers stopped using plastic shafts years ago. They break way too easy. Kitesurfing pumps also blow out the internal valve too easy when pushed beyond 10psi.

So how are the new PSH's??
Im told there are  two types of construction, competition & wood veneer, comp being about $400 less. Are thier more types coming?
When psh went with Boardworks I was thinking of Starboard type durability..but the salesman said the comp is not that strong,Just trying to find out more before i buy.
The psh web site was not much help,am i looking in the wrong place?

Oh yea...Hey california...how do those bitches ride??? Call in sick & get out there..Give us the 411...Thanks
Shawn

The boardworks versions are very tough. This weekend I saw one that had been out on demo for months. The rails were scuffed all to hell, but not a single paint chip. Amazing sight! The rails were just missing some gloss in the paint from the beating the board had been though.

Several are off airport and run shuttle busses to their lots several blocks away in town. It avoids the airport concession fee.

I've always been able to grab a mini van in Oahu for cheap by checking costs right up until the week before. There is always somebody with too many cars on their lot dropping prices at the last moment. I was able to fit my SUP inside the mini van.

Gear Talk / Re: 2010 Naish boards with Gore-tex vent plugs
« on: July 17, 2010, 09:14:33 AM »
When goretex vents first appeared there were several guys talking them up as being awesome because they could see the bubbling while surfing, proving the vent was needed.

I had to grind my 16mm socket down thinner on my bench grinder to make it fit. My vents come from corsica engineering. He supplies most US builders. They say some sockets fit in his vents without grinding.

hello naish!! what about this !
thx

If it worries you, just pour a cup of water on top of the vent. If the water doesn't vanish, your vent is sealed perfect. Go have fun.

It doesn't worry me.

Are you saying your insert had less than 6mm of thread depth? How could you tell it wasn't seated? You can't see down in there. If anyone else tinkers with the vent beware you may break it, if you mess with it without using the correct tool. A metric socket wrench. Not pliers! Also beware the required torque is very light (5-7 in lbs) Don't F**K up your board being inquisitive. I've installed enough vents to be able to feel the o-ring when it seats. I suppose you could pour a cup of water in the vent cavity and see if the water holds or vanishes. That would be safer than having people mess with it.
