Good question.  I use a spinning reel and just cast way out plus a little slack and then seat the rod and start going.....u could let line out with yours until you hit bottom and then start paddling' depending on your depth of course.  What r u fishing for?

Thanks Dave!  Great clinic and good on ya for spending the extra time with us.  I wrote down five things to work on and cannot wait for my next session to concentrate on some positive changes.  feels like tinkering with a golf swing really.   Thanks Beau for organizing and thanks to Urban Surf for hosting.

I met headmount (Bill) for a guided run down the Maliko on Tuesday the 11th.  It was my first real downwind and the winds were whipping, crashing, and blowing like we were on a moon off of Jupiter.  ( thats what it felt like to me but Bill I think was pretty bored).   I got my ass handed to me most of the trip  but I did manage to get a few lengthy runs in where I felt like I was starting to 'get it' .   I have done most of my paddling here in Washington state on flat water and wind chopped stuff but that did not prepare me for the Maliko run.   It was a hoot though and I am glad I did it.  Thanks Bill!!You are the man.  That place is the real deal.  I was spat from my board every which way but loose and I must admit that I feel like I was taken out behind the shed and beaten with a stick :P.   We had a time on my GPS of 1:45 from dock to beach 7.68 miles.    I have my work cut out for me but certainly  inspiring.   ;D

I bought on 4 months ago at urban surf in Seattle.  I like it allot.  Stable and feels like it cuts through the chop well.  I switched to the Larry Allison Eric terrain fin and it tracks much better for me.  I have not had it in big winds but in 20 knot breeze it handles well.

SUP General / In Maui April 7
« on: March 22, 2011, 06:45:34 AM »
I will be in Maui for one week with the family. I can get a way for a couple of days to sup.  I will be staying in Kehai near sugar beech.   If some kind soul would let me tag with them for a session it would be most cool.  I sup 3to 4 days per week mostly in flat water to wind swell and chop where I am from.   I would then be more than happy to reciprocate with a day SUPping in Washington or a day skiing or hiking in the mountains and then down to the tap house for fresh micro beer .  Jeff

So I can't seem to see when the long race is scheduled to start.. Will it be a loop course or will there be a shuttle at one end?   Would it then be with tide or against?   Thanks for any info.
