SUP General / Re: Blood ang gutz... Bring out the wounded

Ralph - That was really fast recovery! Especially since it got infected too! Glad you're back on the water! It still must be terrifying to think about. I can't believe you drove home!!!

Mine went to the bone, so lots of blood. I'm at 5 weeks and wound has scabbed over shut - luckily no infection (though they did give me antibiotics pronto and they used a "power washer" (I think it's call Lavage) - that hurt as much as labor pains, but may have saved me from infection. May need some PT to regain flexibility. Yes, shooting pains up and down. But less as time goes by.

Coversurfer - You are so right about MRSA in our waters here! So many people get it nowadays, and from tiny scratches too. I got it in my knee from Kihei area a few years ago. ER, antibiotics, etc.  Alcohol over every scratch now, and Hibiclens soap too. Hope you recover soon! A nurse told me to take extra Vitamin C - it really helps the body's immune system while recovering. Keep stress down, if possible too.

I did hesitate posting the pic, but figured you're all brave .... I was terrified at first - thought I may have cut an artery. Wish I could say something exciting like Pier One or Kanaha, but no, it was a waist/chest jack-up over-the-falls at Ukumehame. Used the leash as a tourniquet. My husband, Trip, swam me in and there just happened to be an EMT and male nurse at the beach, so they took wonderful care of me until the ambulance arrived. Healing slowly (any suggestions for healing faster are most welcome!). When it's closed I'll go for PT. Definitely taking off those fins. GL version 2 are great fins, but .... I'm used to a quad set-up, I'll see if Proteck makes some.

Absolutely out there together looking for waves! We feel lucky that both of us share a passion for this. Trip's go-to board is 8'11", and mine is 8'6" - both Dave Peterson boards.

SUP General / Re: SUP Regulations Being Contemplated on Maui?

Heard that some sup folks did attend the meeting and said that DLNR has no interest in regulating sups or other surfboards. They don't want to get involved in the bickering. Aloha is better.

Just heard of another vehicle stolen at Kanaha. Rumor has it that the thieves have a stolen master key for older Toyotas. If your key has a TR47 or TR37 number on it - watch out. At least one person was holding their key when their vehicle was stolen. So if there is a master key, even with a steering wheel lock, they can swipe all the contents.   >:(

Since I'm not cute and young any more (that used to always work in my favor!) I bring lots of cookies and treats to share at whichever break I'm at. Being really friendly on the land often spills onto the water too. Smiling, making pleasant compliments about people's boards, how they caught a wave, etc, etc also help towards creating a mellower session.

What an inspiration!  Thank you for posting.

But wow, has there ever been a field party of folks in our yard with cameras and food: visitors , locals, beer and music! Great fun meeting new friends!

Sessions / Tiger at Kahului Harbor Fri morning, Feb 26th
« on: February 26, 2010, 01:40:22 PM »
Hi All - If you go to the K Harbor today, please be careful. There was/is a 12 ft tiger there this morning. I saw it myself. (Near Buoy 6 - the break near the channel).

13
I think this was from the first day, when they temporarily called it off due to the (obviously) dangerous conditions.

Could this be the start of mating season for them? We've noticed them acting goofy and hanging in pairs.
