I'm fixing to start my first SUP build and am a little lost on how thick I need to be and also on what shape I need for my application. I want to go somewhere around 17 to 18 feet long, 26" wide, but I'm not sure about what thickness I need to support myself at 210 pounds. I paddle in St Andrews bay in Panama City FL which can see some rough chop but for the most part is just flatwater paddling. I like speed and want something that can travel with little effort since the island I want to paddle to is a 14 mile round trip at the most. I also find myself having to move upwind quite often. Just looking for help about design for my purpose along with deminsions for best weight support for a heavier paddler. Thanks.
Also is there any good videos out there or pictorials that can walk me through the process?

Hey folks I've been researching shaping my own board but so far have only found eps blanks up to 14ft long online. If I build a board I want to do something long like 17ft. Where can I get longer eps blanks from? Is there a way to splice them together? Sorry if it sounds dumb, I'm in the preliminary stages of researching and don't know much about it. Thanks.

Hey guys i got my first displacement board and its not stacking as well as my first two planning hulls did. I put the 14ft displacement board on bottom due to being longer with the shirter board on top. The shorter board is wider though meaning the straps reall arent contacting the bottom board allowing for more side to side movement than im used to. Is it ok to run the shorter board on bottom so that both boards will have mating surface with the straps? Also due to the displacement hull shape it woukd cause the other board to be cocked if that makes any sense. How would you guys stack these boards? Thanks for any info.

Well i just bought a tahoe zephyr 14 that i love which moved my wife from a 10'6 boga mahina to my 12ft boga el rey. I want to take to 10'6 mahina and set it up for surfing. The board has the center fin that came with the board but it also has side fin boxes. What is the best way to set the fins up for a beginner sup surfer. Thanks.

Hey guys I just picked up a used 14ft tahoe zypher. On the underside of the board I noticed a few surface spots that look like paint chips, I'd like to know if they need to be addressed before going on the water. Also where the bottom starts rolling into the side there is a pretty decent looking 2" crack (still just the surface layer), the original owner has epoxied the spot but it wasn't sanded down. I would like to repair it right before hitting the water sunday. I don't care about looks as much as functionality, looks can come later, I just want to get my new investment right and not screw it up with water damage or human error damage. Upon first googling i see alot abojt solarez, is that what i need to fix my issues. Thanks for any info.

Hey folks I currently have a 12'x31 boga el rey that is very stable for my size (220lb). My wife has a 10'6 x 29 boga mahina that I find a little more tippy but I get around ok occasionally falling on 180 degree turns. Ive been eyeing a gusu 14x27 race board on craigslist but am wondering if I can handle it. My question is how much more stable/unstable will the 14x27 be vs my wife's 10'6x29? Both have manufactuer ratings of about 190lbs but I seem to handle the 10'6 ok enough. Thanks for any info.

Sorry for posting the same thing in two forums but I wasn't generating any responses in the gear section.
Hello folks! My wife and myself are wanting paddleboard to go along with our kayaks. I'm trying to find quality boards that we won't out grow quickly. I'm not one for "starter" stuff that I'll regret later. I found a decent board on craigslist. It's a 14'x27"x5.5" GUSU board out of destin, fl, not sure if yall heard of them. I talked to the lady that owns it and she said they told her it wouldn't do well for anyone over 190lbs. That rules me out but my wife is only 130lbs. My question is how much tougher on a first time user will it be to learn on a long narrow board like this? I know it may not be ideal but it will be nice for her to have something that moves the way I'm sure this board will in the water. I paddle a chesapeake 17 ft kayak with a 24" beam and I know how much less effort it takes to move it across a rough bay vs a 30" hobie. I'm assuming the same for a paddleboard and I'm sure you guys will correct me if I'm wrong. We will mostly be playing at the beach but there will be some bay crossings here in panama city to shell island and crooked island. All crossings less than or right at a mile. I do want us to be able to do some cruising though. I can do 5 miles in my yak effortlessly with no soreness. What kind of range can I expect to have on a SUP? Is a 5 mile cruise considered a long trip or just a walk in the park? Thanks for any info.
