I see where Sen Barbara Boxer (D) has introduced a bill to eliminate the Electoral College.  Wonder why she didn't introduce that bill in 1992 when Bill Clinton won the Presidency with just 43 per cent of the popular vote?  In the Electoral College system, a candidate must get over 50 percent of the votes to win.  A tie goes to the House for a vote.  If, in 1992, we relied on the popular vote, it would have either gone to a run off without Ross Perot siphoning off 19 percent of the Bush votes, or it would have gone to the House of Reps, which was controlled by the Democrats at that time, depending on what the rules would be.  Should we eliminate the Electoral College?

Gear Talk / New Boardworks Raven at REI garage sale in Bellingham

Just saw a new 12-6 Raven at REI Bellingham (WA) for $950 (or thereabouts).  It has a pencil sized hole in the deck to the foam.  Looks liked something poked the box.  Easily repairable.  If anyone is looking for solid touring board at a budget price.  Its right by the front door, if it is still there.  It has never bern used, ie, dry.

Want to revisit what the most popular chest pack is these days.  Saw a Vest Pack at a shop on South Padre last week.  Not sure how comfy all that neoprene would be.  I see a couple others out there, one Camelbac Molokai and one Osprey.  Who's using what, and how do you rate them?  I already have a pfd with hydration bladder (Mocke), interested in just v the hydration pack with a little cargo room up front first energy bar, phone, maybe plb.

took my race board out for a light workout today at a local lake, just getting over being sick.  overheard from two senior citizens (more senior than me):  "that is a kneel down paddle board, it must be hard on your knees".  prompted me to look and see a lady paddling a rental board while kneeling, with a child on board.  last week, a much older lady, seeing me with my surf ski, told me to have a "good sail".  what can you do, other than smile ...

You know Juan, the illegal alien who shot and killed the young woman in the sanctuary city of San Francisco after the Sheriff of that burg released him from jail without notifying the Feds. Here's a question I have yet to hear posed by the media:  so now that he is in jail again, this time for murder, will SF again release him to the wild after his sentence is complete or if he is acquitted?  Or will they turn him over to U.S. Authorities for deportation (again)?

Current issue features a story on good fats versus bad fats.  I am not sure what the authors background is in nutrition,  but at the beginning he cites lard as a bad fat.  Then he goes on and on about how lard comes from cows.  Hard to take anything the guy writes as fact after that porcine/bovine writing malfunction.  Apparently he operates an SUP lifestyle coaching business, which includes nutrition.  Holy cow!
