If you had to plan a 5 day surf trip down the east coast, how'd you do it?
Daddy here is getting the rare opportunity to get away by himself for a week.
My idea is to plan a little two or three stop surf trip down the east coast, and check out any cool towns/cities. I'll be bringing my 6'8 shorty and 8x30 assassin.
So far, I have only visited Jacksonville and St. Augustine. But I'm open to anything. Surf camps, yoga, culture, shows, night life. Anything that won't get me arrested.
Thanks!

So I swapped my Maliko blade for the 85 Konihi (hot glue). During that process the foam expanded and it cracked (the Maliko). The crack is 1/8" x 2" on opposing sides. I can push the plug about half way before I feel it may require too much force. Is there a standard way to repair? I have a vice I could put it in overnight. Or spade/drill bits to dig out the foam if needed.

This is more a less a poll. I raced with one fin all year, and think I could benefit from having a couple options next year. I'm also moving to a narrower board (27 to 25). So I am curious:
How much do you weigh? What is your paddle technique skill level? What fins do you use and how did they perform?
Example for my board: Board Dimensions: 14x25.5 Weight: 185lbs / 85kg Skill (technique / balance): Intermediate Flat Water Fin: ?? Open Ocean Fin: ?? BOP Style Fin: ?? Jousting Fin: ?? Stand Up BBQ'n Fin: ??
Thanks!

So my current race board is a 14x27 around 250L. It's stable. I'm comfortable on it. Buoy turns, surfing, no problem. I've won one and placed in a hand full of the recreational 3 mile races, and one race I even lead the first mile with the 'elite' guys before I started gassing.
At a recent event I saw a guy on a custom carbon and asked to try it, I knew it was narrower than mine. It was a bit tippy, but I paddled out in some light chop, made a wobbly buoy turn, and paddled back. Come to find out, it was 23! But thick, at 270L. The fin was comparable if not smaller to mine.
I could see myself easily doing a 3 mile in flat conditions with it, which made me wonder if I drop down, what would be I be comfortable with in some more serious conditions? 26? 25? 24? Does that extra volume help? I gotten advice on here that people my weight (185lbs) should have around or at least 270L. I tried a 14x24 @ 250L and it was very unstable for me. Maybe I'm ready for a 14x25 with some more volume. Too bad there are no boards around here like that I can try. My next purchase may be on faith.

I had these shipped from down under last week. It took only a week to arrive and was packaged well. So far I've loaded up my 14x27, 8x30 and my new 9'6x32, all have fit snug. When you turn the arms down (no board, better MPG's?) there is a little whistling so you'll have to turn up Gwar or Insane Clown Possie. It was easy to install, however if you have the Tracrac system you'll have to grind / file the tabs down to slide in, as they are too big. Not sure of Thule or other brands will have same issue. Sometimes the arm won't lock in tight on the board unless you really give it some pressure. The board is not going anywhere if you leave a small gap. The rubber on the arms and underneath has really good grip.Comes with 4 keys. Takes about 20-30 seconds to turn the arms down, load the board, and put the arms back on. Was about 250$ US Dolla shipped for this SingleSUP version. A bit pricey compared to 70$ straps, but worth it for me, saves me 10 minutes on my lunch break fumbling around, thats an extra mile.

Eyeballing these beauties at a local shop yesterday. Really impressed, only second time I've seen them. Is it worth the price tag? 1500-1800. Durable?
They have a Tear Drop, Assassin, Vortex, Torpedo. I think the Vortex or the Torpedo had what I think is called a chine rail, what's the deal with that?
The torpedo or vortex had the dimensions I'm looking for, 9'6x31. A board for rougher days, still fast down the line, stable, obviously able to drop in on OH's. Wondering how the chine would affect stability.

Time to sell my SB 9x33. I love the way it turns, but looking to get a little more speed, more watch catching ability. However, this new acquisition will be my family/friend loaner as well, so needs to be stable for a novice in flat water and small surf. I will be surfing it in rough days, mushy surf up to head high.
My thoughts are to go longer, skinnier, but not to far into all-rounder land. The extra glide paddling around would be nice as well. Any insights on the following boards, alternatives, or thoughts in general appreciated.
JP Fusion 9'8x31 - thin rails, tried the 10'2 x 32 and loved it SB Converse+ 9'5x30 - description on website fits my criteria, the AST construction on my 9x33 is solid Imagine Icon 9'6x31 - thin nose/tail, also fits my criteria

Yes, SUP accommodation is the primary requirement in my car hunt. Followed by petty things like gas mileage and reliability. Wanting something that can manage a 14' race board a few times a week on a 40min commute. 30-40mpg would be nice. Used, 10-15k range. Looking at the VW sport wagon TDI.
What's working well for you commuters out there?

I think I finally figured out how to trim my 14x27 Riviera RP. Previous sessions I've tried stepping up a foot, back a foot, a tad here, a tad there. Never really felt a difference. It felt a little better stepping forward. Today doing some sprints/interval training I decided to exaggerate and stepped all they way forward to the front of the pad where the incline to the more bulbous nose is. The displacement part of the nose was half in / half out of the water, the board loosened up, felt lighter, rolled easier, tracked slightly worse, but was fast.
I'm thinking the board (@ 292L) may be too big for me at 185lbs since I have to step so far forward, or is this normal? Perhaps I need a more vertical fin as well instead of the Ninja.
Thoughts?

A man fishing for flounder near the Shalimar Bridge on Saturday night may have played a critical role in saving the victim of a tragic boating accident.
Terry Kline, a battalion chief with the Ocean City-Wright Fire District, said the man and his wife, whose names he did not get, had picked up the badly injured 28-year-old Georgia woman after she was hit by a boat and brought her to shore.
“Without him, that girl might not have made it,” Kline said. “He definitely needs a pat on the back.”
The victim of the boating accident was identified Tuesday as Kristy Marie Wise.
Wise lost a leg from the knee down as a result of being struck by a propeller blade, but is listed in good condition at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission clarified that Wise had been paddle boarding with a male, not a female friend when the accident happened.
Kline said the man Wise was with may have contributed to saving her life by getting a tourniquet around her badly lacerated leg. He said paramedics praised the work that helped stem profuse bleeding.
The accident happened about 10:30 p.m. Saturday as Wise and her friend were paddle boarding on the southeast side of the bridge in Garnier Bayou, according to Bekah Nelson with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
A boat, possibly a pontoon boat, came up behind the two “at full throttle,” according to Kline. It was traveling in the same direction as the paddle boarders, Nelson confirmed.
The paddle boarders shined a light to alert the boat of their presence, then jumped into the water when they saw their efforts were in vain,, Kline said.
Wise was in the water when the boat propeller caught her leg.
Kline said the couple fishing for flounder recalled seeing the couple paddle boarding near the bridge and remembered expressing concern about their location.
Nelson said the FWC is still “actively searching for the boat responsible for the injuries” inflicted upon Wise.
“There is a chance that the vessel was unaware that it hit (her), so any boats that were in the area at the time of the accident could provide beneficial information,” she said.
Kline said Wise was taken to the hospital in Pensacola by ambulance, not helicopter. Though a landing zone was set up at a Shalimar ball field, helicopter units contacted to carry the victim could not fly due to weather, he said.

Looking for suggestions to stiffen up ths ride for my 8x30 tomo custom. Usually mushy surf and beach break. Fcs ii system. Not sure to start large or medium. I'm 85kg. Definetly need to slow down the turns, and get more a little stability in chop.
Also not sure what exact fins I have currently, will report back with measurements. Maybe someone can tell from pics in board review forum.
Thanks

I had my leash rope come loose in some small surf. It left me scratching my head. I pretty much did this, tight as I could, minus the glue this person has in the knot: I'm reading about other methods:1. tying a double bowline and putting the rail saver through both loops2. doubled up figure eight3. fisherman's knot4. glue ...Besides using something better, like 550 cord, what knot configuration are you using? I'm looking for overkill really. I can't have my board coast into another group of horny, drunk spring breakers. My next thread should be how to get various 'stains' out of the deck pad.
