2015 Ace GT for sale in Vancouver, BC. Super fun bump catcher. Would make a great touring board at 17'4 x 28. Lots of tie downs. Board is in very good condition.

Easy. Ace. Nothing else like it. Rules all in messy conditions.

Had some friends doing a 24 hour charity paddle so did the last 3 hours with them. Turned out great. Lot of money raised in a really grassroots sort of way. Monster & Sea is just a damn cool company.

Gear Talk / Re: Leap of Faith - SIC FX 14????« on: January 26, 2016, 07:32:07 PM »Yep, that's the one with really thick edges. Dimensions do not a board make. Fast upwind, slow downbreezing and downriver, 6 months and I still could not figure it out. Great looks and only one review, that's why we need more data on these boards. And this is the hard part with all these boards. I love the Flatwater. It is exactly what I want. Once I got the right fin on it. Goes great upwind. Even in chop. Catches all the small runners downwind. Perfect for the buoy races I do. But I was looking for a 26" width with more than 300L. I suspect the true problem is that it really does have too much volume for most people. Most 100kg folks probably want more width. 8
SUP General / Re: Leash Use.« on: August 26, 2015, 08:24:27 AM »So, did we wander far enough, fast enough? This is exactly it. Is there room for one more though? 4. Be a leader in the sport and use a leash yourself. Everyday in all conditions. 9
SUP General / Re: Leash Use.« on: August 25, 2015, 10:33:38 PM »The issue of leashes in actual races is not really an issue. At races there are not only other paddlers - who WILL help a fellow paddler in distress - there are usually a few spectators and most importantly there is usually some sort of "safety" in place. Warren, don't add the hedge. Leashes are always important. Racing or not. People will do what they do but I think the message should be simple. Don't give folks the excuse of racing to skip it. 1 minute and 47 seconds is al it took for that fellow in Hood River to vanish. 10

Was lucky enough to spend an hour with Dan Gavere talking about how to safely get started in the river. He strongly recommends a leash. There are a couple of techniques for installing the leash so it will release from both ends and that is the key. 11

Saw an email from JimK and he had some Fanatic boards that looked like a great deal. They might be worth checking out. Lots of volume for the full size folks.

Great video/interview. Thanks.
Pretty excited to have Travis Grant come to Vancouver to race and do a clinic at the Vancouver SUP Challenge in 2 weeks. 13

Looks like a new model 14 x 27 AllStar for 2016 is the DW board. 8.7 thick, 311L and a 17.2 wide tail. The 14 x28 has a 15.9 tail and 320L volume. It is also a bit thinner at 8.3. The Allstar boards in general seem to have a small volume bump. Maybe the new nose configuration. They look like an improvement over the 2014/15 boards, but that is only based on the changes I would like to see made.
And to keep this Ace focused......I love my Ace and will pick it over the Allstar almost every time. 14

DJ, that must be the 14 x27. The tail is 2" wider than the 25 and 28 Allstar for 2016. Lots of volume too at 311 L.
As far as the Hypernut goes there is a 8"6 x 31.5, Not sure of the volume. 15
Downwind and Racing / Re: A board more stable than SIC Bullet V2 for bigger guy?« on: May 11, 2015, 10:13:30 AM »
Don't be afraid to give yourself a few more runs on the narrower boards. You might find you get used to it pretty quickly. And once you do, you will find those 30" wide boards really slow. I am 220 so I know the struggles of finding enough volume in the right places. I recently bought an older 14 x 27 Starboard Ace. It has plenty of volume, seems very stable, and catches all the little bumps. Enough that I am sort of keen on a newer carbon one.
