Come on windsuppers - post some pics and posts - I am holding off until Spring to buy a windsup - got enough wind for shortboarding here in Pepsicola - but I gotta think on the lite wind days - many with side off conditions - there are some great stories to be told?

I agree it seems pretty specialized - for near perfect conditions - I would have liked to see some footage of Damien punching through some whitewater, and how it tracked while trying to catch a wave - but overall I like the idea of less swing length-and the snappy style riding - i kept wanting Damien to pull a 360 -maybe a 20 board quiver is going to be the ticket - or at least 3 for surf, 2 for racing, and 1 tandem.

I am not sure the Juno beach video is a good gauge. Nothing against RRD, he designs/shapes some awesome boards. But the waves in that video are pretty close to logo high. I think any, shortish sailing SUP would perform pretty well. And the wind does look to be about a solid 15, (not alot of pumping needed), so it was breezy.
I would like to see the 8'5" in SUP only mode to gauge its speed and maneuverability. Maybe we will see some additional vds later. It is however wayy cool that designers are leaning towards a dual purpose SUP because most of the time there is wind to contend with.

I don't know much about kiting but I had thought using a 6m kite on a SUP would be fun - much like a 6m sail.
I would think a fast moving 6m would be more fun and whippy than a 17M?
The other point would be maintaining upwind ability.
I know when I shlogg on my short board windsurfer, it is difficult to stay upwind, and only when I plane off onto the fin, am I able to stay upwind.
Nobody wants to do the walk of shame, and with a SUP and its soft edges and smallish fins, I see staying upwind as a challenge in on shore conditions.

Thanks Laszlo,
Looking forward to your impressions - the problem here in the gulf is the short period wind blown surf - usually waist high - 10knots side/on pretty much daily. I think SUPing in those conditions is going to be tough and not very appealling (haven't tried it yet) but I think a sail should make it a piece of fun cake. I am a shortboarder in solid 15knots like you. Just looking for fun time on the water. . i actually have a Waveski that i use in the junk stuff  - more fun than a long board - got the 360s and the off the lip stuff dialed in. Its a great workout, but I am bored with it.
FYI - I surfed/high school in PV - then San Diego. Majored in surfing with a double minor in Beach Volleyball and Girls - ha! Still surf and vball here (and married) but it is difficult to find those around the 1/2 century mark to hang with.
Your Hood River summers must be awesome.

Laszlo,
It would be awesome if you could post a pic of your North Pacific custom and a bit more information on its performance. I am looking for a sailing SUP-been checking out the AHD Sealion but might go custom for a lighter construction/better planning? I checked out the North Pacific website and am curious how your custom differs from their production models?
Thanks,
Mike in Pensacola

JD - thanks for the report - as long as you can schlog and point so you don't end up like a downwind kiter in marginal conditions - that would probably be my only criteria - planning out would be a bonus - maybe the XL might be the ticket - although you would probably give up some in aggressive maneuvers do to the extra swing length.
May try and tag up with you or maybe you need to make me a Team Rider over here, so interested buyers could demo my stuff?
Yes water is clean, beaches have been cleaned up - caught a nice waist to chest long period swell last week - we had a really nice swell about a month ago - but the water was too iffy - it was pretty amazing to see decent surf and no one out - I think everyone was waiting for someone to take the plunge. Many headed east 60 miles or so for clean water. Keep us posted on your demo travels.

Anyone out there tried the AHD Sealion or Sealion XL in real life conditions - ie on shore 10mph slop - with or without a sail?
The videos and blog show mostly clean side off conditions - i need to know if it will point and be fun in side/on conditions - with a 5.8 sail for my FL conditions.

If you use Google - it will translate for you.
Thoughts?

Also Starboard just came out with a 7"4 Rush SUP that looks inviting in clean waves - would like to see how it does in the afternoon sea breeze.
