Sounds like a new deck pad is the best way to go.  Bummer.  I definitely have had some close calls with doing the splits and I am not that flexible.  Thank you for the input.

Hey all,

I just bought a new board and I love it but my deck pad is made of foam, smooth, and a little slick.  Do you know of any way to add some more grip to it without having to replace the whole pad?

Technique / Re: What side should the paddle be for backside surfing?

Tom and stoneaxe,

Thank you for the input!  The whole paddle on the inside of my board going backside is going to take some getting used to.  It looks like that is the best technique for overall performance.  Can't wait to get out there and try it.

PonoBill,

I was afraid someone was going to say that!  I have noticed that the photos in SUP Journal can't be beat, but I like the layout and content of SUP the Mag.  Looks like OUTSIDEWAVE was right maybe I should get both.  Thank you for the input.

OUTSIDEWAVE,

Don't think the thought hasn't crossed my mind.  I'm leaning toward SUP Jounal and SUP the Mag, but I don't know if I can justify the cost.  I'll wait and see the pros and cons from some more people before I choose.  Thank you for the reply!

Technique / What side should the paddle be for backside surfing?
« on: April 03, 2014, 05:08:39 PM »
Hi everyone,

I am a natural footer and I tend to feel more comfortable paddling into waves and riding waves with my paddle on the right side of my board.  I am trying to improve my backside riding and I am looking for some opinions on whether to switch the paddle over to my left side so I can bottom turn and open my shoulders more, or keep it on the right side.  I have seen photos and videos of guys doing both and I can't find a reason as to why they choose one or the other.  I would love to hear some of the opinions out there.

Thank you,

Kane

I'm looking to get a subscription to a SUP magazine and I am torn.  I am trying to choose between SUP Mag, Stand Up Paddle Magazine, or SUP Journal.  I like all of them for various reasons but I wanted to get some opinions.  I mostly SUP surf but I also enjoy cruising and I love the lifestyle.  Any information would be appreciated.

You should be able to enjoy SUPing anywhere there is water.  This sport has made the ocean and any body of water a playground of unlimited opportunities.  It all comes down to respect and safety.  If you know your place in the line up and respect locals and everyone by taking turns, giving a heads up on incoming sets, and having a good attitude then there should not be a problem.  All of us need to know our limitations and not surf spots beyond our capabilities unless they are empty or uncrowded because you have to progress some time, just don't mame anyone in the process.

I am 6'5" tall and weigh 255lbs.  I am an intermediate paddler and I am looking for a board to surf all conditions.  I have heard good things about both of these boards.  I don't want a behemoth 12 footer.  Anyone have any information or experience they are willing to share?  Thank you!

That was a great video of a pretty epic bodysurf ride.  I used to bodyboard there through high school into college years but now I just ooooh and aaaah from the shore like everyone else.  It is a fascinating spectacle for those who have never seen it in person.

Thank you for all of the feedback.  I think I am going to try the magic eraser sponge first and then go from there.  I will let you know how it works.  Thank you again for the help.

Hey all!  What is the best way to get scuff marks from your paddle off your board without messing up the glass job?

Awesome video!  In my mind that shark was lucky.  He didn't know who he was messing with.    Thank you for the post.

Rack N Road has all the rack stuff you need.  I had a Thule rack system bolted to my Ford Focus and had no problem transporting my 14' race board.  www.racknroad.com   I got mine in Costa Mesa.  Talk to Reggie and he will get you set up.
