Wore my Z Treks on last couple of paddles and they were perfect. Light, good feel, no negative impact on stance, movement, no need to worry about where to stash them once I'm on the board. I may be paddling on a slow river where it's a bit rockier to launch so will try the Z Trails there.

I have both the Xero Z trail and Z trek. Haven't worn either yet for SUP, just during transport. I suspect the Z trek will have better proprioception on the board as its a bit thinner than the Z trail which I use for everywhere sandals. These are both fairly new designs that are a significant improvement over the originals which I got rid of awhile back. Straps are fine and very comfortable and pretty adjustable. I'll try out my Z trek next time I'm on the water this week

You guys are studs then. I got thrown to the deck at raccoon and had to paddle on my knees. Still fun stuff though.
It was at tail end of a paddle from San Rafael

Thanks sterbo - is the best place to launch into Richardson bay then still end of liberty ship way? Yea I get the hellaciousness I guess it's SE past Richardson Bay. Crossed that Saturday paddling to east Angel Island. Was like a washing machine and I guess it wasn't even as bad as it could get.

I ended up taking my board to 101 surf sports in San Rafael. They did a superb job very reasonably priced. Ended up launching to paddle while out there. Super good guys and service.

Rode awesome trails. Day 1 SUP only. Day 2 Mrazek all the way up then back down - 31 miles, followed by late afternoon SUP. Day 3 shuttled up to swampy then rode swampy trails, ridge to sector 16, upper whoops, stormking, grand slam, bens, KGB, Kent's - 32 miles. Then SUP in afternoon. Day 3 trail run up and back Tumelo Falls Trails. Plenty of photos, good times, couple of vid snips nothing too exciting. This is an annual trip for me, but now I'll bring my ISUPs as well. Surprised how many people were asking about my iSUP (astro tour 14x30).

Ended up going SUP every day after a couple of hours of mountain biking so was just nice and easy to launch and mellow out from riverbend.

Get there early. Parking around there is no joy

I'm on the road right now heading up to Bend to mountain bike a couple days but also brought my inflatable starboard to get in a couple of paddles.
Any suggested launch points? I've only previously launched from that park just south of old mills I think (riverbend park?).
Any other points along the river further north or is that the "best" place? Needs to be close to town.
Staying about 1/2 mile from COGs wild bike shop.

Yes...that's why I have iSUPS for when traveling. Not worth the exposure / loss of my hard board.

Very helpful discussion thanks all. One of the concepts from competitive shooting is economy of motion - minimizing wasted motion/effort for movement mechanics in various aspects, such as keeping gun up in "eye line" and closer to full extension. I'm seeing interesting parallels in minimizing recovery stroke movement, keeping top hand high, and maximizing blade in the water at the power phase. A lot to work on during tomorrow's session. Makes sense, thanks.

I've started doing this occasionally especially as I'm changing boards. My ISUPs sit a lot higher in the water than my hard board so I've gone +2" to compensate. In wind I'll make a bit shorter as well.
