Not this is going to affect too many people but MCBH is no longer allowing SUPs in the breaks. I tried to surf North Beach and got notified by the lifeguard of the change in policy. He let me paddle out prone, so I guess it's really paddles that are banned. I don't know what prompted the change, or even when it happened. Just a heads up in case anyone else was thinking of heading out there.

Seams like everyone who does not SUP hates it so the military might as well also. I get so much hassle in Oahu. Mostly from the biggest kooks who are prone surfing places that suck for prone surfing. I guess they get hassled at the good spots or not good enough to surf at them and think a guy on a sup is a good target to make them feel important. Sadly I know that the majority of them all they have in life is to do things like this. So I count my blessings and let them rant with a smile on my face.  Also the funny thing is I prone surf the good spots (Rockys V-land-Etc) with no problem and get my share of waves, but put a paddle in my hand at some crappy spot and the comments start flying.

No Officer, I will NOT leave the beach and I will NOT go surf somewhere else. And I will Not sit at the back of the buss and I will NOT pay your fine.

I will not be discriminated against for any reason, whether it be for race, sexual preference or surfing preference.

Someone has to stand up to you officer, just like Rosy Parks did, and that person is me.

I think we need a "Rosy Parks would SUP" sticker. ;D

I know this topic has been discussed over and over, but you make a great point--it really is the paddles that are being banned, unless all surfboards are banned.

The more posts I see of people with amazing skills surfing standup, and of people using SUPs that are much shorter or at least no longer than many surfboards, the more misguided the bans seem.

No, it was like that for a while.  I just figured it was:

A.  He doesn't have his reading glasses on.
B.  He is protecting his true location.
C.  He is usually drunk when he's on the Zone, like the rest of us.

I don't call it drunk, I consider it wine-enhanced. Where are my reading glasses, I'm not sure I spelled whine properly.

Absolutely

When I was young, surfing and surfers were considered ill behaved and evil by the forces to be.  (we probably were) One of the Naval Air Stations we lived in around the country was Coronado, Ca.  Surfers were always poaching forbidden spots and running or paddling away from the man.  Heaps of fun.  Just a blip of time.  Enjoy it.

Similar to when snowboarding was not allowed at Ski Areas.
It took some forward thinking people to reach out to the Area management and present their case.
Of course ski areas had the ability to financially gain form allowing snowboarding.
Easy Rider is the name of my store in Edmonton, AB, Canada.
My name is Warren Currie . . . and we SUP Surf indoors . . . in a shopping mall!
