New Board narrowed to Starboard Pro OR JL Super Tech
« on: September 04, 2017, 12:47:54 PM »
Hi,
I'm now looking for a new board and have it Narrowed down to an 8'x28 Carbon Starboard Pro (2017) or the Jimmy Lewis 8'3x28.5" Carbon SuperTech.  I'm about 175 LBs and advanced paddler.  I have a 2016 7'7" Starboard I use when it's super clean and also have a few custom Cannibal SUPs around the 90-100L mark.  I want to use this next one in OH conditions and chop and slop fun.  I like the pulled in tail and nose on the Starboard Pro but I also like that the Jimmy Lewis Super Tech is thinner overall.  Has anyone ridden both these boards that can give me their feedback.  Please don't throw in any new options as i like both boards and want to make the purchase soon. Thanks....

For the conditions you describe, it sounds like the larger JL SuperTech may be a better quiver addition for you.  I'm about 195.  I haven't ridden the size boards you're considering but I do have the 9'1" SuperTech that I ride in larger & rougher conditions.  The larger size is more comfortable and works great in rough conditions.  The SuperTech is a sweet, versatile shape that works well in a wide variety of conditions. I ride a smaller 8' board when the conditions are clean.

Eddie - I'm your size and I debated the 8'3 or 8'8" SuperTech, I went with the 8'8" mainly because I wanted a bit more stability and glide for my conditions (slow, mushy EC waves).

I'll say compared to all of the other boards I've ridden this one really feels like a surfboard underneath, incredibly stable at 112L for me too, so I think the 105L will be fine.

+1 for the JL.   (Not to mention you'll save money over the SB)

I have the 9'1 and its even a little floaty for me at 210-215lbs- But i got it for the same reason.  Full winter gear (and thankgiving weight till it burns off in the spring) I can ask my winter boards to float an extra 20lbs more than my summer board sometimes,

I bought it to be able to have extra length when battling a little chop but also hard winter offshores  and it only comes out Chest on up.   This will be my first winter on it- but fared well this fall in like conditions.

really dying to ride the 8'8 as I'm still searching for a 8'5 is 115-120l Chest high and under shortboard.
