Boothy finished first -> then Tito then Connor with Slater coming in 4th overall this last competition.

Lean power dudes will always have a big advantage over those carrying excess weight.  All at the top are leaned out with good endurance etc.  Similar advantage goes to those racers with good balance and technique that can put down full power on much narrower boards vs you.  Double whammy against you.  Heavier plus pulling a wider board with more drag.  But skinny fat with no muscle is also slow.  The top are optimized in all facets and deserve those placings.

Boothy used his 21.5 Sprint both days -> and the flatter Day 2 really showed how fast and efficient that board is with proper power balance endurance etc.  So what else would one expect?  There was no complaining and certainly no whining.  It is what it was.  Mo was sick from Japan.

But yeah to beat that thinner guy -> it is about fat loss if your equipment cadence and technique are similar.  Plus of course power to the paddle training endurance etc.

It's about fat loss to beat that thinner guy if your equipment, cadence and technique are similar? That's a pretty broad generalization on your behalf. If you don't have much fat to lose, and your equipment, and ability is very similar to the "thinner" guy,  you are going to lose if you are heavier more times than not.

It's about fat loss plus of course power to the paddle training endurance etc based in the parameters given.  Not just fat loss obviously.  The OP even thinks it is about weight loss and BMI and a combination of many factors.

Fat loss and weight loss can be very different.  So not clear what the issue is there.  Some that lose weight -> lose mostly muscle mass and not much fat mass.  That might make you slower with less power on tap.  Certainly losing fat mass should be preferred vs muscle loss when it comes to cutting weight.

But your scenario where there is little fat to lose is not the OPs issue.  If heavier all else being equal -> then obviously you are going to lose more times than not.  Simply lower power to weight ratio and more drag are big cons there.  In many cases those factors separate the top finishers from the rest given the other variables are a wash.
