Challenge on the Charles 2014 - July 19th
« on: June 18, 2014, 10:53:04 AM »
Next up in the CCBC event series is the CotC (July 19). Always a fun event and a great chance to see what the CCBC ohana is all about, helping the kids at Christopher's Haven. The haven holds an open house before the event to tour the facility and meet some of the kids and their families. One visit is all you'll need to understand why we work so hard to make CCBC events so special.

The CotC is a 4 mile race from Community Boating held in the inner basin of the Charles next to the hatch shell. Awesome venue, fun race, the usual great CCBC party with great food, brews wine, and dancing to the Smoking Jackets as the sun sets over the river.

See the website for details.

I'll be there for sure. I have my doubts that the Doc is going to let me race, but maybe. If I do this could be your chance to beat me. I'm weak as a kitten.

Looking forward to this years event, got sidelined last year day of the event (no worries Chaser I won't be calling you from surgery this time)!

This is one of the best east cost events of the summer and all for a great cause !!

If you have any thoughts of doing a race (especially for a first time) do this one. No pressure, just a ton of stoked paddlers having a great time.

I love racing, but the party is the best part. I can't believe that there are actually people who come to race, and then leave. Sheesh. Every years there are diehards yelling at the Smoking Jackets for one more song twenty minutes after they're supposed to quit. Well, maybe it was just me, but I don't think so.

And actually that wasn't a general challenge I was tossing out there for people to beat me. I just meant Bob, though I'll be happy to lose to just about anyone else if the Doc says I can play.

Weather is looking good so far (knock on wood).  If you haven't signed up already, get it done.  Registration will close on Thursday afternoon and day of registration is not available.

Maybe you will be going home with one of these.......

Looks like I'm going to be able to paddle, albeit somewhat slowly. I didn't get clearance from the doc, but I've been out on my F16, and it wasn't bad. I can't believe you guys still have party tickets and entries left. The COC is the most fun event I've ever been to. I"m flying in on Thursday so I can get some clam eating done in advance. Looking forward to seeing the CCBC ohana.

It's looking good, as usual lots of late registrations waiting for weather. Still off from last years but I suspect that's the effect of so many races available now.

Chaser will be sending out emails to racers and party goers shortly but here's the map for those that want a heads up. We'll likely be starting outside the lagoon opening this year.

Best laid plans...  Diane got food poisoning last night so we missed the plane. She's on the mend after a truly horrific night. On the plus side I'll get in a downwinder today, and it's nukin'. Fortunately we were coming in a day early, and I was able to move everything back one day. See you Saturday.

Killed me that I could not attend this event this year (other family commitment) but from what I hear it was a great day on the Charles.  A huge thanks to the rest of the CCBC gang that picked up the slack and made the event a success and also to all the paddlers and partiers that came out for the event.

We hooked up with a cool company out of the South Shore of MA to shoot the race via drone.  The company is called Gull Vision - http://gullvision.com/home2.html.  We have been looking to get some aerial shots of the race for a few years and Gull Vision was the perfect match.  If you organize a SUP event in New England, give these guys a call.  They are good to work with and very reasonable.

I included one shot from the drone below (we are sifting through the rest), the race result list and a fantastic photo of Stoney & ECSUP looking their best at the party!  Sorry Bob I had to.....

We had that on the hand markup on the day of but it looks like it didn't get back into the spreadsheet. That was a hell of a finish between you and Danny. It looked like you had her as you approached the finish and I think if the course had been 10' longer you would have.... 1 second apart after almost 4 miles and that despite the fact that you missed the start...hard core, great race.

You're welcome...i was lucky to get some oysters......they came out while Nic and I were upstairs doing the numbers. If Sue hadn't brought us some we would have been SOL. 3 bags gone in 20 mins...  :D

A++++ Fantastic Stupendous Race and Party! Had an absolute blast! Already looking forward to next year! Hands down the best after party I've ever had the honor to attend! I only wish it didn't end!

We caught some great photos too that we'd like to share. I can post some here, but would love to share them with the entire crew.

Thoughts on who I should send them to?
