Im going a little stir crazy not being on the water these days, damn Canadian winters!

I'm gonna take my paddle down to the pool in my building and just paddle a bit standing on the pool deck.
I realize this is not ideal as the blade will be moving through the water into which it is planted rather than my body moving past the paddle entry point.

What I'm trying to determine, is this a good or bad idea....I'm thinking shoulder strain.
Would be good to work on the stroke in the off season.

Cheers

Not crazy at all. Creativity when forced to be out of the water is always well rewarded. Maybe standing on a bosu ball or other type of balance challenging item may help to bring the drill closer to reality.
Shoulder strain, a possibility. Try measuring your practice progress by counting strokes and keeping and eye on technique. A little practice will go a long way when back in the water.

If you can get away with it, a better way might be to put your board in the pool and tie your leash to something. Add a piece of rope if the leash isn't long enough. A bungee cord might be helpful too.

I remember seeing this video a few years ago.  The paddle has a few holes drilled through the blade to allow the blade to slip through the water.  It might address your concerns about shoulder strain.

After looking at that video, I wouldn’t do it.  It looks like that kind of training would screw up your technique. I think it can cause some bad muscle memory that can then be hard to break.

Tie your leash to a safety rail or something and paddle for hours. Works great!

Pretend you are being trailed by a shark in Brazil.

I know what you mean about stir crazy.  My creek is fully iced over.. It's not even nice to skate-paddle when the wind is up and the Sun is blocked.   Sometimes I just need a little reminder it is not this way everywhere..
