Merimbula 2014

It's the 33rd running of this awesome event.. I got there a couple of days early.

Well I hit the road yesterday with my 12'6" Glide and 9'5" Mana.. and managed to get my Fat bike inside..

Oooh.. nice little waves at the main beach.



Up early ish for a paddle in the inlet today.



We dont have water like this back home.



Paddled over to the beautiful Bar beach.



The tide was full but there were nice little knee high waves on the Bar..

I spent the next two hours surfing one after another on my 12'6".. No one else out..

I must have caught a hundred waves.. Fell in once.. Only in boardies and not cold at all.

Then found a nice little possie to soak up some sun and relax.



Then it was back to get my Fat bike out and try out my new knobbies.



You know the tires are fat when the bike stands up by itself.



Then off to the RSL.. Jeez they do a good roast in Merimbula..

Wooohoooo....I love this time of year....DJ heads to the Merimbula Classic and posts a ton of trip reports flaunting the Aussie Spring weather and cool beach culture-vibe that goes with it.       

Just when the weather here is turning to crap (pre- winter and pre skiing...)  Thanks DJ. 

I can't wait 'til tomorrow's report.   I'm going to  have to go out for lunch and find a meat pie.   The V.B. will have to wait 'til I get home.

Thanks for the photos, DJ--loved the bike.  I see you worked a poster into that one photo.  I remember the Merimbula posters you've posted for the last couple years.  That event has to have the greatest posters ever.  Would love to be able to draw like that--or maybe would settle for being able to buy the posters.  Here's a close-up of this year's:

Yup.... my comment "slightly disturbing" was the swastika deal from 1994....probably just my Canadian political correctness....I should really work on following the lead of the Mayor of Toronto and not give a damn about anything I think, say or do.....

With very poor internet connection (cuting in and out) where I'm staying it's been very hard to post anything.. Plus the fact that it's been early stars and very late finishing to the days partying.. I just woke Jonathan up and it's only 5.30am.. We're off for another early surf session before meeting up with everyone for a fun BOP race about midday.. I haven't taken a lot of pictures because my camera keeps fogging up inside both lens and back screen so I think it's stuffed.. We did an awesome open ocean downwinder the other day but didn't take any camera.. Kicking myself now.. Yesterday we had a teams relay race.. Four man teams racing out through the waves and across to a nearby beach to tag the next paddler.. I was in an girls team so by the time I had my turn we were next to last.. It was fun trying to make up ground through the field of slower paddlers.. Today is the last day so I'll try and get the GoPro out and get some vid.. Yesterday to did a good comparo of the new 14' DC/NSP and the new 14' Glide.. Took a few pics that I'll post soon.. I'll try and get some pics and vid of the new Starboard Sprint.. It's got the weirdest nose on a board that I've ever seen.. Very interesting news from Naish about 4 new BigBoy Hokua's that are not only high performance surfing boards but they are all 32" wide.. I should be able to paddle one soon (next w/e) so there must be a press released about them soon.. There's also a couple of interesting boards from Bark and Hobie.. The new children's race board from Starboard looks cool.

Hopefully you got things sorted out with your camera.   I'm guessing everything and everyone was frothing....(see - now you got me talking like an Aussie  ).

Hope you had a safe drive home and are now recovering at work. (Isn't that what work is for...??)

Maybe you could convince some of the other participants that might not normally post here on the Zone to compile a trip report or two.  Preferably with the requisite food and drink pics as well as the surfing and racing and.............
