Anybody paddle a Creed Sup board?
« on: September 22, 2012, 12:55:37 PM »
I'm looking for some input from folks who have paddled a "Creed SUP" Paddleboard.

I saw an add on the zone about this company. Looking at the site they seem to have some good things going for them. Two of their boards caught my eye. The 12'2" and the 140 liter 10' surf SUP. Any feedback about them would be appreciated.

I have a Creed 9'6" surf SUP. It is super light, very good graphics and pretty durable. I have beat the heck out of it attempting to learn to surf and it has held up well. I'm pretty much a newb, though, and can't really tell you how it compares to more well known boards.

You might watch the weight limits on them. Mine has been fine for me but I known of another owner that disputes how much they float. I'm 170, my 9'6" floats me just fine on flat water and and well in the surf. I have no complaints.

Thanks Jake,  I could not find any specs on the 9'6" surf. Do you no the specs (liters) of the 9'6"?   The 10 footer Surf says it's 140 liters, and the 9 is said to be 114 liters. So if the 9'6" is 127ish  is floating you to me that seems very  good.  Learning  to surf on a board that small seem like it would be a challenge without some surfing experience.

Do you no what your board actually (on a scale) weights?

I scored this board from bugging the owner Randy. It was one of just a couple made, they had mentioned it on Facebook, not the regular site. I don't know if they are planning any more or not. I'll check it here on the scale in a minute and let you know the weight. It is about 28" wide, with tapered rails...I think the tech name might be "pinched", not sure.

It is really tough to learn to surf on this board here, really small, crappy waves...more like big chop. I haven't seen any big, rolling swells like the west coast guys get.  It is kind of like paddling on top of an exercise ball for me at the moment. I get a bit better each time, though, and when I do get it I should be able to ride anything. I take it on flat water quite a bit, too, just for the balance workout.

Just checked it.....19.8 lbs by use of the bathroom scale. I never did see a spec sheet that talked liters. I have no exact answer for that one. I do know I can hold it from the handle strap by two fingers, though.

There is a youtube vid of them smacking one with a metal pole pretty hard. That was pretty cool and I don't doubt that it is real. Mine seems pretty solid.

As far as the 10 footers go, there is the Kai and the S-Kai. The S-Kai is similar to the one I have.....narrower with surf v bottom, the regular Kai is wider and flatter and more laterally stable. Depending on weight of rider I'd go 10' unless you are a good surfer. For a general purpose board I'd say 10' Kai or their 11' model. Graphics all look good in person.

Are these Cobra boards or local and just vacuum bagged?

Anyone from the company around?

Thanks Jake, thats what i needed to know. 19.8 lbs is pretty close to there claim. I think the S-Kai 10 should float my190lbs.

Apparently the board they smack with the pipe is a  "patented DekEFX substrate" . I think that it's a type of 3Dfiberglass job. They only use that on the 12'2" and the 12'6, it's too rigid for surf SUPs.

I don't think they're Cobra but done somewhere over there. There is a vid on their website showing the construction methods. You might call them direct, they've been pretty helpful when I have called.
