Cardiff Sweeper paddles to Maui
« on: September 08, 2012, 07:29:18 PM »
I mean, in Maui.
I'll be there from the 9-20th. Hoping for a bit of wave on the south shore. If not, I'll be happy paddling around.

Anyone care to say hi?  I'll buy the beer.

Ankle-slappers on the south shore. Rideable, fun.
I chatted with some locals this morning about the state of Sup on Maui.
Kind of like most places, it's self regulated.

Joe Blair boards have been sighted.
Lots of knee-suppers, too.  :P

The view here's disgusting.

Nice view.  Did you rent or bring a board with you?

I brought my Starboard 8'0" Pro carbon.
Glad I did, as I watched the baggage handler at the airport toss it on the ground.

I'm staying a couple houses down the hill from Zane Schweitzer's house. But he's on his way to Mexico.

Welcome to maui cardiff! Hope you enjoy your time here. Looks like you are staying at or near maui hill? I would join you if I were able. I just had knee surgery and will be out of commission for a bit. Downwind runs are looking like your best bet as the trades have returned fairly strong. There was is/was some small surf on the north facing beaches lately. If you want some you had better go early as the trades will blow it out by 9 or 10. Sorry for the disgusting views. Try the sunset tonight. It should be a winner.....Pm me if you need any info

Sounds Like a great time. I went Maui this last March. I just prone surfed because I was staying near Honolua Bay and I always wanted to surf there.  Sup is apparently still a no go at that break.

Although, when I was surfing at dawn, there weren't to many people out and I don't think it would have been an issue to sup surf.  Id say it was a pretty good day plenty of waves to be had.  I doubt there is any swell this time of year though.

I'm no SoCalSupper when it comes to story telling...

We surfed all eleven days on the south shore of Maui, mainly at Launiapoko, but hit up Woodies, gaurdrails, 1000 Peaks, Paumana Pools, and Lahaina Breakwall. Surf ranged from micro to some rare shoulder-high sets. Friendly people, lots of knee suppers, beginners...kinda felt like home. A few good rippers in the water, as well.

Thanks to J. Riggs, I got to do a short downwinder, which was challenging. Amazing that I've got two years surf supping under my belt, and getting on a 14' SIC race board was like starting all over.  When I got back on my 8'0"' I fell off immediately. Truly, a different ocean experience!
