What a great contest out in front of the Beachcomber.  Zane Schweitzer, Daniel Hughes from Orange County and Local boy Like Mattheson made the finals.  The conditions were epic for a sup surf contest held with a AWT windsurfing event.  I ran the contest on June 12th in glassy conditions with 5 to 7 foot faces.  Check out the video and the Beachcomber break.

Zane had just gotten of his cast and was killing it.  Daniel said it was better than Huntington Beach and it seemed like Lower Trestles.

Comments are alway appreciated.

There is a big crew from Vancouver Island heading to Gold Beach for a windsurf / SUP trip.  Never surfed in front of the Beachcomber before...can you order up some glassy conditions like in the video please.  This Saturday to next Saturday in the mornings will be fine.   :)

Windsurfing?

check out Keith Teboul's comments about windsurfing in front of the Beachcomber.

Hey Ted,
I just wanted to thank you for hosting me and the event. I think it was a very successful event and I think your support is crucial to the future.
I had a chance to sail out front of your hotel on Sunday. It was exceptionally good. It really made me think that it would be better to do the event out front of the hotel with a possible move to Pistol if conditions don't come together.
Sam could potentially organize a week long event with Sup wave/racing and windsurf. It could turn into more of a festival and bring more people into town.
I don't know what the logistics and permit deal is but I think for the event to grow it would be the best move.
I was getting close to mast high waves with 4 bottom turns....Zane did a 40 foot push loop and broke his board....Morgan Casey and Bernd where just killing it. Much more side shore and much more cozy on the beach for spectators...
Thoughts for the future.
Come check me out at the shop when you get back to Hawaii...
Thanks again
Keith

Zane and da boys signed the broken board.

Generally this is a windsurf trip first with SUP surfing if there is no wind.  The cape in the morning then down to the rock in the afternoon.

We usually camp at the fair grounds...high class!  We might have to drop in for a visit and see what the grass out front looks like.  There will likely be 7-10 vehicles coming down so you might not want us all on your front lawn.

If it is 3.7-4.0 wind down the coast at the cape and rock what is like in front of the Beachcomber?  More-less-same?

Thanks,
-Mark

In general it's a little less windy in Gold Beach.  Just my perception.  I only  can say that on light days.  When it blows is blows.  As far as 7 rigs that ok with me there is plenty of room on the grass and as long as it's quite at night it should be cool.  There is a shower in the office and a bathroom.

Not much swell in the forcast.  Saterday after 5 looks pretty good for sup.  4 foot faces and light wind from the south changing to the usual north on sunday.  That was the condition on the 12th when we ran the contest but 5- 6 on the faces.

I am cutting hay so can't make it until tuesday.  Let my son Evan know what up and he might grab a camera if you guys go out.

thanks

Ted

Wow, Zane made the others look like beginners.
Taller than most, shorter than others.

Zane did rock it.  He had just got the cast off and was stoked to be back up to speed.  I will get a short video out of Zane and Daniel paddling out in double overhead surf after I get caught up.  Got a tom of footage from the event and will post more up.

Thanks for the feedback.  I am working on making next years turnout better.

Thanks

Ted
