Pigdog on SUP? Any tips?
« on: June 14, 2012, 11:58:25 AM »

Soo...I was out in what I would call reasonable sized surf, and at times I really needed to pigdog...I've seen pics of it, but I keep on not getting how to handle the paddle while trying to pigdog on a SUP.....

Any tips?

I don't pig dog on an SUP... I just thing that the girth of the board and the thickness of the rail make it counter productive...

I get really low, and do an almost tripod stance where I am my rear toe and rear knee with a super low center of gravity...

I find that this keeps my weight forward and centered and stable... just like a pig dog would on a shortboard.

Good luck!

Tube riding has driven me nuts since switching to a stand up. I'm kind of getting there front side (move the toes of your back foot onto the inside rail), but I've only come out of one decent backside barrel since I started this journey a year and a half ago. I did it by bleeding off speed in a real low bottom turn, snap stalling, then doing a semi layback onto the paddle. The wave did the rest.

I've seen some decent pig dog footage, but I think the trick is going to be starting out high in the pocket and having your line picked before you get pitted. Unless you're on a super lively board, making small trim adjustments in that position on a SUP is going to be tough.

yes tube riding is very hard on sup I've been working on this for 4 yrs sometimes successful sometimes (most time) not I've broken a board and had numerous injures trying it gets a lot easier when it gets a lot bigger however.

It's a low stance used when riding backside on a steep face - your back knee is dropped real low and your outside hand holds onto the board's rail.

What's a Pigdog??

If you gotta ask what a pigdog is, you're probably not doing it.
