Hydrodynamic wise I would say no to wider is faster in downwind conditions or any condition. I’m not so sure about the lift part either. I think the biggest factor especially in the condition that the video was taken in is fatigue. You will definitely fatigue much quicker on a narrow board and that will make you much slower.
Your logo crashing into the water at the end is super cool!

JD, I’m glad you got your paddle replaced. The video is a demonstration how an impact that doesn’t break the shaft can compromise it strength. That’s all it is a demonstration. Over time impacts add up and so does the stress to the paddle. I sometime hit the back of my board when pivot turning or bracing when on a downwind. The impact is close to where your paddle snapped. Of course that’s just speculation, but that were you should focus on the damage, not on the edge of the blade.

I’ve had two friends where there paddle broke in that same area around the upper part of the blade. Both remember seeing a nick were it snapped. Both were two different brands. Things break especially when your trying to make them as light as possible. That's why I keep my paddle in a paddle bag when not in use.

What strikes me in that response is how his brain short-circuits and gets off the subject than back on. He does this a lot. He hides it by repeating his words. His campaign attacks Hillary’s physical health, but as President mental health is what I’m concerned with. I hope I’m wrong and it’s just stress, but either way it’s not good if you become President.
