NSP 11' or 10'6"?
« on: January 05, 2011, 06:44:46 PM »
Great site . . . I'm a longtime surfer new to SUP.  I am going to demo both an NSP 11' and 10'6" before buying something.  Initially I plan to use it on longer paddles in the ocean (Rhode Island).  I'm 5'8 and 170 lbs.  I'm a little worried about the width of the 11' but like that I will have stability, etc.  Can I get decently long distance paddles with this board relative to other options on the market?  I am not averse to getting an upgrade board later on but want a good starter board.

Thanks for any help . . . this seems like a great community.

My starter board was the 11ft NSP.  It has good glide, stability, and surfs pretty good.  Plus the price is a definit bonus.

Same here, my first board as well. It has pretty good glide for its dimensions and very stable. I have paddled mine on expeditions up to 10 miles.

Thanks VB and Lobes.  Sounds like the 11' gets pretty good glide and you guys liked the board.  Thanks for the help!

but also remember that the width create drag...

also if you've surfed for a long time it'll take you exactly 1.02 minutes before you start attacking waves...

and a 11' board might be more irritating to mess around with...

any chance to test the boards?

Thanks to everyone for the advice.

I will get a chance to test the boards.  They have an NSP 10'6 and NSP 11' to test which I will do soon.  Would the performance of the 10'6 be markedly better in waves and how much might I suffer in glide for longer paddles?  I don't know if my experience in one day will enable me to discern the difference.

Thanks again!
