I think this is a good idea. I would really like to drop a couple of sizes. I don't know how much I weigh and I don't care. I want to wear clothes 2 sizes smaller. I don't like meat though (not vegetarian) and I'm supposed to avoid legumes? What am I supposed to eat? I really like that geezer site PonoBill posted. I'm feeling those aches FOR NO REASON other than I'm old. I workout often, but eat like crap. I hate to admit it, but my favorite food is Taco Bell and In and Out (grilled cheese). I HATE to cook!!!! I'm addicted to diet Coke or Mountain Dew. I'm not big on sweets. I don't eat between meals. Maybe I should post a before picture (maybe not).

Boardlady, I am female too. 51 years old and feeling it now and then. I'll play.

Actually, the no legumes thing is just for a few weeks. After that you can (and should) add them back in, at least I did. To the degree that Beano is a always close at hand. Mexican restaurants are great. Just don't eat the chips, rice or tortillas. Everything else is fine.

I popped back up to 242 from holiday overkill, but I'm at 239 this morning and headed for 210.

I'm also starting the P90X fitness thing this week. Guess I'll start New Years day. It looks pretty challenging but I'm up for a challenge. With that, my diet, lots of surfing, downwinders, the occasional Kalama Beach Workout, and some OC1 I should be good to go pretty soon. Or I'll seize up completely.

I plan to post this in detail on Xgeez and here so I'll keep at it--summary stuff here, detail on Xgeez. Any of you that want to do a Kramer (consult with any Seinfeld devotee for the meaning) can follow along for free.

Pomo and Lady,

Thx for the advice.  Looked at ur site Pono... And I am gonna substitute a hard boiled egg and a few nuts for my morning and afternoon kashi cookie...I would love to do some bitchen, involved diet... But it can't get too crazy cuz it's gotta be simple stuff that I know I like and I know I will have around... And that I can eat on the fly... And that i can buy in the store... Or online... don't cook and for me, eating consumes about 1% of my day...

I lost quite a bit on the diet I listed above a few years ago... (except no nutrisystem... 1/2 turkey sand. Instead... Was 215) ... maintained the loss and lost a little more using nutrisystem...

I just need to watch the snacking and stick to the plan.

Bob, where u been?  I haven't been to san Diego much lately... Sending associates to hearings down there cuz office is crazy... Once under control, I will b marauding the waters off of your fair coast again bcz I've got lots of cases down there...

This is gonna be fun... And thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Aloha Tim!
For me, the recent winter weight gain has been due to the wife delivering baby boy number 2 (Cole, born 11-12-10).  So now we have 2 boys under 18 months old!
Needless to say...lack of sleep has led to poor eating choices and practices...and lack of sleep has led to very few surf/paddle sessions.
It hasnt helped that during my wifes pregnancy, I also packed on some baby weight (didnt want her being the only one putting on pounds!  I am such a nice hubby!)
Anyway..since my paddling weight of 240 during the 2009 POB, I have steadily  packed weight onto my 6'3" frame. I am at about 270...feeling especially sluggish and gross...but I dropped about 30 in 2008, so i know i can do it again...
Here is my plan...paddle more, cut portions in 1/2 and no sodas and sweets.
Sounds simple, but just by doing that, I dropped 25 lbs in 5 months before the first kid was born.  My goal this time around is 250 by summer...we will see!  See ya soon!

Rick, long time no see!  Congratulations on number two!  Tough to get surf time with rugrats...good luck amigo and see you in the water soon!

What do you Zoners think about starting a weigh in only thread to make it quick and easy for tracking  progress, while this thread wanders between methods and mockery and, of course, encouragement?

Head mount, I may have a slightly younger metabolism... But I've got an entire freezer full of my wife's chipwhiches that aren't going to eat themselves.  Actually inviting brother and father in law over to eat them all tonight.

This topic is spot on with my goal for the New Year.  Lifestyle and work schedule have put me in a funk with real lousy eating habits; light meals and no snacking during the day and then a large and late dinner because I'm famished.  This has added 15+ lbs to my small frame over the past 8 months and I feel like crap.

I've tried different versions of the low carb/low sugar nutrition plans (I hate to call it a diet because they always seem to be temporary).  While these work I've had difficulty maintaining because really need to have whole family committed in order to keep the bad stuff out of the house.

Headmount you and I share a similar profile and weight.  I'm signing on to get some motivation and support from you guys.  I really need to do this and also increase activity level as I spend too much time working behind a desk.

I think I know the answer, but what's the rule on beer, wine, martinis, etc; elimination or moderation?

Strand Leper, PonoBill, Thanks for kicking this off.  I'm a 56 year old geezer who was a kook years and years ago and am headed the full spectrum...intermediate and now sliding back down the hill towards a kook.  Two years ago, I sufered a TIA, "Mini Stroke".  Talk about God reaching down and tapping you on the shoulder.  It's amazing what passes through your mind in the 30 to 60 seconds that your left arm is laying limp by your side!  In any event it was a life changer none the less.  Doc got me from 190 down to 175,  "Med diet" fish, nuts, etc.   My Bride made me slow down on the work schedule and now its time to take the next step.  Bill, I ordered the book  this mornng.  Time to point that 175 toward 160!

PS, Two paddles yesterday off of the NC coast with the new 405CX GPS.  My 13 year daughter helped with the transferr to the PC.  Now if I can just get her on the board with me to read the smaller font for the disitance!

Man, has this subject hit me in the face! I made the mistake of jumping on the scale this morning. I have 'blossomed' from 175 to 187 in the last two months. HELP!  I know where my fat-ass will be heading after the holidays are over; to the gym!!!      Later,   JD

two pounds in two days!
Amazing what not drinking soda and not eating after 6 pm can do.
Went and battled yesterday in stormy bump surf at Old mans-no one on it-weird.
Tim i really want one of those chipwiches though!
Keep one in the freezer for me and next time we meet up lay one on me!-that will be my reward for being good for a week!
Good luck everyone!

I'm 60 and 6 feet.  Up till age 33 I was a vegetarian, at 160lbs (same weight I was when I grad high school) and surfed often.  At 45 I could eat all I wanted and still remain at 170.  Quart of Haagan Daz in one sitting blended with mangoes, no problemo.  But then it started.  At age 50, 180 still felt fine but then I really started slipping and by '07 I was 220.  Stacked on 30 lbs in 7 years!  On Labor day of that year I had an A-fib paddling down the coast.  No reservoir of confidence any more.  I knew I had to change.  Don't know if I'll ever hurl myself over the ledge with the abandon I had, up to even 10 years ago but I see some great role model pals of my who are very active in their 70's and now I want those years to be good for me also.  188 this morning... but you know the morning weigh-in is a cheat.  The real one is the end of the day.

SL- Just throw those things out.  It'll be liberating.  You know how when you go to a restaurant and the food is bad and you know it.  You don't eat it because you know you'll pay twice if you do and the price you pay with your body costs so much more.

Dan,
One of the reasons I'm building Xtreme Geezer is so people like you can tell their story. Of course the Zone is a great place for that already, I'm just adding some particular focus. There's lots of people in the same boat, working to come back to fitness after injury, illness, or just an unhealthy lifestyle. I'd appreciate it if you and anyone else with a story like that to tell give this a shot. You can upload pictures or other attachments. The story will wind up as a post as soon as I verify it's not just some spammer selling Viagra (talk about good targeting!). Here's the link. http://www.xgeez.com/your-story/

Xgeez is a work in progress, I'm probably screwing around too much with wizbang features, but it's getting close to launch. Right now I"m trying to figure out a good way to add fitness tracking like Daily Burn.
