mast foot box

Hi there,

I will very soon buy my first Stand Up Board.
It might be a 11'4 MANUAL BOARD (designed in California, manufactired in China ?...). It is an EPS+Epoxy board.
I would like this board to be also a summer family board, so I will insert a mast foot box, to be able to have some lightwind-smallwave sail surfing and also for my kids and wife to windsurf a bit.
The question is: can I insert a simple us fin box or does it have to be a real mast box? or do you know a kind of plug insert with only 1 hole where you can screw your mast base?
What kind of work is this? hard, risky, easy?
Any tip?

Real mast boxes are available cheap. I suggest you install in PVC cassette when doing it.

I just installed a chinook mast box with high density block foam on a 10' C4 board for a friend.
He wanted all around board so he decided to windsurf it and the thing works good..
