Picking up a gun for the big wave season and just didn't see any reviews out there on the Naish's, JL's, PSH's....anyone have any input for me?  I'm looking at it as a destination board.  Cruising to outside islands or reefs and playing when I get there.  I don't see surfing anything bigger than double to triple overhead max so I'm thinking the smaller ones might work just fine.  Thanks ahead of time boys/girls.

I have the PSH 12ft  gun, love it.  I use it for what you described.  For long distance I take out the side bites and put in a large single fin.  For waves I run small sides and a 8" wingnut.  She glides well.  Only draw back for this board is quick hollow beach breaks.  Great board for 1ft  to what eversize wave you want at points, reefs and mushy beach breaks.  Very stable for me 200lbs with intermediate skills.  Enjoy !

recently purchased Stag Arms model 6 with extra 30 round clips for some relaxing at the range, matches well with my SIG P239 and other assorted guns in my quiver of arms.

Check the Tomahawk stuff, Evan makes a Flea signature model and their stuff is tested at Mavericks so they know what they are talking about.

Has some of their stuff. I don't work for em, I just know that they've been there and done that on the big stuff.

I've heard great things about the new 12'6" Coreban.. Has anyone used it?

Thanks for the input boys, I'll keep the SIG in
Mind if I enter the Biathalon in the
Olympics. ;). Any Bombora or Naish Gun
Input out there?

Hi Wavehobbit,

I currently ride the Naish 9'8 gun and live on Maui. I have also used the 10'8 and 11'6.

First off being 6'0 and 178lbs i started with the 11'6. This board is a novelty to catch waves with. I am always saying to myself I can not believe I am in already! The only issue for a board of this size for me was it starts to get "flighty" when there is some wind in the face. Also since  do not have the weight i had to stand pretty far on the rail to turn it. So I say for a bigger guy this will be a great choice.

The 10'8 was a good one for me to this board can handle 25ft (faces) easy, I have lots of control, speed and paddle power. Also turns decently as well. A bigger person can ride it to a medium size guy.

Now the 9'8 for my size is a gem turns great holds it's own in 20ft surf or bigger if it lines up well and has plenty of speed and loads of control. It is a little tippy but i got used to it quickly.

Hope this helps!
DCW.

One more thing these boards are not only big wave oriented. They are also fun in small to medium surf.

As a 220 lbs guy, should I head straight for the PSH 12' Gun or are their any other good options for a heavy guy? Most of the other guns don't seem to have much more volume than my 9'3 Subvector.

9'3 Subvector: 138L
10'6 PSH Gun: 140L
11'6 Naish Gun: 143L

It doesn't seem like either would offer much more glide for getting on waves than my Subby would.

exiled,

I have a JL 12" gun that works great in all conditions.  It's my favorite small wave board and also has the glide to get in early on the big rollers.  It's very fast board and loose for its size.  It steers very well from the standard surf stance position--no need to walk back and forth or stomp on the tail to make the board turn like other 12' boards I have used.  It has enough nose rocker to tolerate late takeoffs.  On the bigger, juicier waves, it starts to bounce a bit for me at 158 lbs, but it might work for you.

go for the 12 ft PSH gun, the more I ride it more I like it.  She fast !
