Cross-training Videos
« on: December 01, 2010, 10:21:07 AM »
My co-workers are starting a web site for Tac Fit style training... I have been doing these work outs for 3 years & they cross over great to paddling.  There will soon be an entire work-out (Tac Fit India) posted on this site for free use...  great stuff!

Dude, what you do on a SUP is truly amazing... I'd trade some gym tricks in an instant to be able to ride like you do. Mahalo.

That is very impressive.  Those guys are S T R O N G.

Swinging a 45 pound club is just amazing.  Then a one legged squat holding it out front, wow.

Great to see how powerful they are without all the bulk of a 'bodybuilder'.

Strength to weight must be paramount for firefighters.  Looks to me like they develop their connective tissue and cartilage to carry MUCH more than body weight.

Very impressive stuff.

I started as a distance runner--all endurance.  Then I started swimming, which required a little more strength. Then standup, which requires still more strength.  I've been slowly understanding that strength is an important part of fitness.  It's also rewarding to get stronger.  This video is really inspirational--looks like extremely hard work, but fun in same way that doing anything challenging can be fun.  The guys in it should be proud of the condition they're in--looks like they've certainly earned it.

I did notice that one guy copied greatdane's tattoos.

Yeah... what a copy-cat!

It's been a good learning experience trying to gain "functional strength" vs. just size or "look how much I can bench!"  Go muscle vs. show muscle.  Doing these workouts mixed up with some yoga and stretching has hopefully made me less prone to injury, I hope.  That said though, in 6 months I have gained 11 pounds and only 1% body fat.  But a lot of that was cutting back on cycling and running and paddling more.

Another thing to consider in our "advanced age" (I'm 41) is getting your testosterone levels checked.  I was surprised to find I was at the very low end of the normal range for my age.  I've been supplementing now for 2 months & feel better already.  Just a thought.

Train hard!

The easiest way to raise your testosterone level is to abstain from caffeine.  Drinking coffee absolutely destroys testosterone levels.

Fair question!  Totally legal prescription from a doctor.  Only 200mg every 3 weeks.  Some body builders have been known to inject up to 2000mg a day!  But their balls fall-off eventually.

I'm 60 and Take DHEA which stimulates the body's production of testosterone.  I think I notice a difference but it's subtle, but as GD says it's wise not to go mainline testosterone.  PDX is also right on about coffee.  On of the most destructive legal habits out there.  Plus caffeine taps the adrenals.  You get out there in extreme land and need that extra natural boost that adrenals give you and discover that you've already tapped the keg.  I might add the addition of max magnesium just below the point when you got the shits.  I had an A-fib paddling downwind three years ago.  No fun.   Max mag since then and no problems.

I was right about something? Dang!  I just made that up to give greatdane a scare.  I guess if I keep making stuff up I might hit the truth every once in a while just by chance.  Like the time my teacher wrote "incognito" on the board and asked me what it meant, and I told him I didn't recognize it, and he said, "That's right!".   :o

Seriously, though, the real testosterone killer is the ink from tattoos.
