Winter paddling
« on: October 06, 2010, 11:03:54 AM »
This will be my first winter paddling.... although not my first on the water. As far as cold weather clothing is concerned, I'm pretty aware of what I need, just looking for deals.

What I am completely unaware of is how to take care of these foam/epoxy boards over the winter. Paddling in the day with temps in the 40s or 50s is fine. But it gets cold at night around here, easily getting into the 30s, 20s, and plenty lower. So if there is any water in these things, the boards are going to break. How do you make sure all the water is out of them? Is it enough to just turn it upside down & hope it all drains? I keep the board on the rack of my truck a lot these last few weeks. It's upside down & I've pulled the plug to see what drains out..... and it aint' much. I've even weighed the board a few times to see if it's getting heavier. Still the same. But just want to make sure I can use it in the off season without ruining it.

I'm hoping to build racks in the garage soon. Which is insulated, but not heated. It will get plenty cold in there & I need to make sure the boards are taken care of.

TIA....

what kind of board?

If its a decent company you should have much problems, just rinse of with fresh wter after each use and def try to store it in a garage,

it would be an interesting story to have a board crack bc its frozen tho,

I am in Wa state also, I leave the board on my car rack most of the time,
but in winter time I use a padded board bag keeps it ice free , never had
any problems.
