Puget Sound 60F air temp/ 50F water / Breezy = thick booties (7mm), NSR Hydroskin pants (really like these), & a couple of rash guards.   Layering upper body for conditions (like cycling) looks common.   Obvious problem is I’m often paddling warm but will be too cold if immersion becomes extended.  In warm air / cold water some are using a thicker full suit pulled up only to the waist (in case a leash brakes & board blows away?).

compression shorts under board shorts for the bottoms and a rash guard for the top, or if it's chilly i wear a 2mm Matuse Chapter 1  shirt ( www.matuse.com ), which is very warm. lately been just trunking it here insan diego. a little chilly when you fall in while surfing, but thats just more incentive not to! also have a 2mm long leg short sleeve oneil wetsuit i wear when it's  colder and a 4/3 ripcurl wetsuit leftover from the surfing days.

I had compression/bike shorts under my trunks this morning and a 2mm neo top.  The SoCal water has chilled nicely thanks to our lack of Summer this year.  Falling in was chilly, but the shorts and top were enough for the conditions and my bullt-in layer of 'self insulation'

Never throw out that old, worn out, cracked, ripped, delaminating, totally f**ked up wetsuit that has become totally worthless for windsurfing or surfing, because it works great for SUPing, and it's free.

It takes a quiver to do that.

REI had their "scratch & dent" sale today. Took us an hour waiting in line to get in, and in the end I didn't find any paddling gear at all. After I went thru the scratch & dent stuff, I went inside to check it out. Hydroskin shirts were $45. The biggest one they had was an XL. I'm 6'1" & 210 & it was about 2 sizes too small for me.
They had some splash jackets too, but I can't recall the name brand. And the biggest ones they had were an Medium.

I did end up with a propane camp fire, a backpack for my dog, and a pair of Native sunglasses for a bit over $50.

I am looking for some advice on sizing for the Hyperflex 50/50 long sleeve top.  I am 6'3" 190lb.  I am between a L and XL on their sizing chart.  I am leaning towards the XL with the rationale that if it is a little loose that would probably be OK for paddling.  Just curious if anybody has this top in my size range and what they would recommend. Thanks.

Hey, As it gets colder here on eastern Long Island, flat water days call for  wearing either my Izumi  thermal fleece tights which are not to tight nor to baggy.They are also wind proof and water resistant. Also NRS 9oz nylon/spandex union suit works very well and my wife says I'm a sexy ,sexy bastard in it . In the surf Its a 2mm farmer john with a lightweight semi dry top. later.

We have them sold here in Spain and I was considering for winter months. Are you satisfied with the quality and wind protection? Does it get too warm?

Like Bill, I have become a fan of compression tights on chilly mornings.  I have tried the 2XU stuff, which fell apart way too fast (the seams blow out if you don't put them on really carefully) The Saucony tights are the same price and more durable.  IMO

Quicksilver Waterman collection has a jacket that I may have to check out.

PolyPro Fleece lined neoprene in the front, and top of arms polypro back for venting. Really cool.

A minor concern about jackets with closed cuffs;
How quickly (or how SLOWLY) do they drain out if/when you take a full dunk ?
I don't mind getting wet, but I do hate being held down as I'm trying to climb back on (-:

That's one cool thing about the Quick Jacket. It's not full neo sleeves, the lower parts are polypro. So it's not loose like a drysuit or semi dry.
