Ventura weekend, need help!
« on: August 30, 2010, 10:56:09 PM »
Ok, I'm heading up to Ventura for Labor Day weekend (no, my wife is crazy!) and was hoping to avoid the crowds as much as possible for an SUP'er. I figure C-street will be a major hassle so I'm staying away from there.

Does anyone have experience at Hobson or Faria?
How's the vibe at Rincon and the surrounding breaks?
Any other ideas?

Cheers!

Go to Faria almost every weekend and haven't had any problems. Just show proper etiquette and watch out for the beginner surfers.  If you want to get away from the crowds you could paddle up to Pitas point about 1 mile north.  On your way to Faria stop by C St check it out, I go there also and there are more SUP's there all the time. Maybe see you in the lineup.

Before I moved back East, I used to surf all along Oxnard Shores all the way up to Mondos (Faria?).

Mondos, Pitas, Ventura Overhead, C Street (if you go early enough), Silver Strand, and Hollywood are all good breaks.

Have fun!

Thanks for the insights. Yes, I believe Faria is more commonly referred to as Mondos. It's good to hear the SUP's are playing well with the natives and having some success at some of the more contested locales. I still think I'm going to yield the C-St breaks to the anticipated crowds and head a bit north towards Mondos and Pitas. However I do have a friend in Oxnard as well so may make it down that way too.

Let's hope for a little more swell in the water for the weekend! I should be on my 9' Imagine so if you spot me please say Aloha and let's grab some waves together!

Cheers to everyone for the holiday weekend and I hope you all find some stoke out there!
