*Newbie.. /interested in the sport!*

Hey all, i hope i am posting this in the correct section so that i don't get flamed! 

But i have recently been looking to get into SUP. There isn't much surf where i live and when i go to the beach with my fiance i wouldn't mind paddling around while she is laying out with her friends.

My questions are pretty simple. What am i looking for in a board, and how do i know whats right for me?  I am looking for something that is decent across the spectrum and obviously i don't need anything fancy.  Mostly a beginner board if possible, but maybe not?! I know height weight is a factor and that being im 5'9, 240.  So i need something that can hold some mass. When i surf with some buddies i usually ride a long board about 10-11feet long.

My balance is solid, i long board on land. surf a bit, water ski, so i can handle what is thrown at me.   If there is anything i could check or find a place to check out some things that would be great. I live on Long Island NY, but i figured i hit up the community before i go out into the wild.

Get in touch with Hamptons WaterSports. They sell boards, rent boards. Try as many boards as you can before buying.
