Which board- PSH 12' Gun/Cruiser or Naish 12' Glide

I'm looking to add a 12 footer to my quiver, already have a PSH 10'6" WAA & PSH 9'6"Wide Ripper. My purposes would be long distance paddling mainly, plus having another larger board on hand when friends are over to use. The 9'6" doesn't really cruise too well on the flats for my less experienced friends.

The 2 mentioned boards seem to have similar dimensions, but the PSH has the added bonus of using in the surf if it gets really big. And price is almost the same.

Your opinions are welcomed and appreciated...

Have not paddled the PSH - but have paddled the Glide 12 a ton.
It is a great flat water board, is wide enough to but newbies on, and works well as a 12' downwinder board.

Hi Kronix,

I have the exact same boards as you and have the PSH 12' gun/ripper. I love the board and it is definitely faster than the 10'6 WA.

I have used the board also for racing and in waves. It is so versatile. The 10'6 is a little bit more stable because of the extra width.

I use the board for sporty flatwater paddle stretches and waves. You will love this board. I'am 90 kgs which makes the board float a little low since it has not very much volume for its length. If you are a bit lighter the board will handle even better for flatwater/long distance.

Good luck.

They are both great boards.. I have a few friends with the 12' PSH and they love them.. and other friends with the 12' Glides and they also love them.

A good friend that I often paddle with has the Gun and when we paddle together I often use my Glide.. They are very different boards.

The PSH is better suited to waves and still ok for flat water as long as you're not too heavy because it's a little narrower and much thiner through the tail.

IMO the Glide is better for flat water and down-winders.. and bigger people.. also learners and for anyone wanting to carry kids or pets on their boards.. It only works 'ok' in the waves.

Here's a few pictures of our boards together.

I need to ask why limit your self to a 12 footer when there are more options available in a 12'6 SUB? Considering 12'6 is also about the same price range.

Mahalo for the replies! Each one of you makes great comments/points, which I kind of expected with these 2 boards. Hard to say anything bad about them.

Appreciate the pics DJ, very similar and the dimensions are only different by centimeters.

I like the option of the PSH to be able to surf it in large surf, which seems like the only drawback of the glide. I don't plan on racing but long runs would be done daily. Rocker you seem to not have any issues with that. I'm 210lbs so the float should be ok it seems.

@Ninja-I haven't really explored anything larger, what would you recommend? I choose these 2 boards for a couple of reasons. I already have 2 PSH boards, and I know Blaine & crew do things right so why not stay with what works. On the other hand, I've heard nothing but good things about Robbie Naish's sticks & the local shop has a killer deal on an Glide AST. Although price isn't a concern, I still won't pass a great deal up.

I was just wondering. Especially when there are newer designs and so many different companys offering SUBS in the 12'6 range that is almost the same price range. You know what I will just say why go with older design when there is something new and fresh that is coming out in the next few months. For example Blaine is coming out with a 12'6 hybrid 5 fin that looks smokin hot compared to his old 12' gun. Just saying something to consider.

I just got a Naish Glide 12' as my second board and love it.  Funny reading some of these posts because on my first paddle I wasn't convinced I had bought the right board.  You have to learn how to coax the board, it likes multiple short paddle whips vs long power strokes.  Once you get this technique you will be flying, the board will catch glide on anything, its amazing.  The rails are very unique, hard rails all the way through from tail to nose.  At first the board will feel tippy for a 12' but once you learn the initial strange (different) feel of the hard rails you will find it is actually super stable.  The bottom shape has a nice Vee down the center with a very mild double concave which helps the board track well.  I stand very far forward on this board, toes ahead of naish badge even, which it seems to like, the nose will not pearl, nice bit of nose rocker on this board for sure.   I am 6ft 180lbs  I have not tried the PSH board but I know they make good stuff also.  Good luck

i wasn't real impressed with the 12 glide. nearly purchased one used, but now glad i didn't

bought a JL albatross instead, and, after comparing them side by side with several other paddlers, it was clear which board is better for traveling, racing, etc.

just my impressions
