Broke my side bite on my Nalu 9'6
« on: July 07, 2010, 04:09:29 PM »
I love this board so much I had to order another 2010 bamboo 9'6 Nalu. Anyone have any ideas on the rough cost to fix the board? again I say rough cost to professionally repair it.

Before the question is asked. I broke it during the last swell on the west coast of Ca, going backside on a overhead set I wanted to hit the lip and before I could, I went over the falls landing on the fin. I didn't get hurt, the Nalu took the brunt of the damage... don't ask me how I didn't get hurt, it happened so fast and just ended up with a sore back.

Thanks ~ Todd

Coolbreaze in San Clemente does good work-not sure if they would take that job on though- his name is Mark-surfs a lot at San-O, he has repaired a few of my boards-but not any of my SUP's- i would think a ballpark would be at least around $200.

(does is seem to anybody else that naish boards are more prone to broken this and messed-up that than many other boards?  for instance, i've never seen a thread about a broken fin on a starboard, nor one about a defective carry handle that allows 10 lbs of water to soak into the board.  kinda makes me worry about getting one ...)

I'd have to see what's under the fin box on a Starboard to answer that. My bet is it's no different. I have yet to see PVC high density foam blocks used to set side bites. PVC blocks are used on windsurf boards. But they see much higher loads.

If it makes you feel any better, that Naish box is set into a wood sandwich skin. Super tough skin, but underneath, still just EPS. That is a tougher fin box mounting than my custom made in the USA $1700 SUP had. The shaper warned me that some high lift fins can break the box. Oh thanks I thought. Is it too late to cancel  :'(

There have been threads about leaking handles. Especially the plastic ones. You can get a poor bond between plastic and fiberglass. Naish has fiberglass handles, which I think bond better. I think it's a case of shit happens on your friends board.

here it would be about $70 with a glossy paint finish:

Linter: I do not have that impression. Not only don't I have that impression, but my board have held up fine and some of them have really been tested too....

I am sure most boards would have a fin failure if you land on their fin especially if you put pressure on it the wrong way...
