Milking it on the Naish 14.
« on: June 29, 2010, 08:55:26 AM »
I stuck my GoPro on my head (helmet) today on a nice little DW run.. The angle was a bit low but it worked ok.

There was not a lot of wind but just enough to get runners.. It doesn't take much the get the Naish 14 going.

We are in the middle of our Winter down under and I'm really looking forward to next Summer..  ;D

Nice DJ.

Sorry to rub it in, but were your feet cold?  Where was that fancy footwork you posted about before...? ;)

DJ, That in an impressive little flick, makes me really lust for a Naish 14.  What are your thoughts on this model for use as a recreational racer (calm to open ocean conditions) and for use on down wind runs?  I live in Santa Cruz, CA and the board would see use primarily in the ocean around that area.  5'8", 175#

Sounds like it'd be absolutely perfect for your size and those conditions. You're smaller than I am so the board should float you extremely well. I'm 5'10", 220lbs and when I rode my buddies 14' Glide, it floated me just fine. It was also light years ahead of my 11' JL in terms of speed and performance.

I swear DJ should be a sales rep for Naish. His posts on here and on Seabreeze were a huge factor in my decision to get a 14' Glide.

What feet?.. I could even feel them..  ;D

I don't think you need to move around the board as much when it's small.. I'll try and get some vid on a day when it's really honking and I'm sure you'll see more moving around the board.

Thanks.. I think the Naish 14 Glide is the perfect 'recreational racer' board.. Everything from glassy conditions to a howling gail this board does it all.. Up wind, down wind.. I think the shape is just perfect.

In fact I think it's the best board in the whole Naish range..  :) .. and no.. I don't sell them..  ;D

Thanks for the info, it's on my short list of boards to demo.  Had a quick ride on the new Bark/Surftech 12-6 and really liked it, but these seem like really different animals.  I need to get out in the conditions I plan to ride the most and see how they do.  Glad to know the Glide does well in chop and slop, we get strong NW winds most afternoons in the spring, ruining surf at a lot of spots, but creating it (in downwind runs) right out my back door??

The Glide 14 is unreal... it planes of anything and everything, I was a little bit skeptical to all love song for it, but now I know it's for real. Before on the Glide 12 I had to have pretty big glides to get it going and the board it self was not very much better than an allround sup say nalu 11'4". But the Glide 14 i'm in love, it will bring people to understand the big thing about downwindracing

Per Larry via a post on Standup Paddle Magazine's FaceBook Page:

The hole in My Standup fins are there so I have no limitation of how big to make the base section of my Standup Fins. Most if not all Standup Boards come with a 10" fin Channel. I have experienced that Standup fins need a larger bottom end plan shape to stabilize your standup ride. Having a screw tab limits the base size needed and breaks. Both not good features to have in your RACE SUP FINS especially. I will have more tech data at www.standupfinsbylarryallison.blogspot.com explaining the special designed locking concept of my Standup Fins in a week. Thanks for asking, "Enjoy the Ride"

Nice video. Looks like you were catching some good rides.

What was the wind speed?

To hang the board in the garage. Or may be to create turbulence

I would think that hole would cause air to run along the base of the fin and make it less-efficient.. It looks a lot like the Starboard fin and it uses a normal tab and the front of the fin.
