Maui Rentals
« on: January 25, 2008, 04:30:49 PM »
Hawaiian Island Surf and Sport was recommended to me last August when I was visiting thete. They were helpful to me as a novice and had a choice of a few different models and paddles. I rented a Jimmy Lewis 11' that worked perfectly for me.
I imagine there are more shops renting SUP's on Maui now but it was slim picking back then.
(I caught the stoke and now own a JL 11 and will be in the market for a new board soon.)

The door is open to borrow my boards. If not got to second wind and sail and speak with either Sarah/ Ralph (owner). Tell them Byron referred you to them and make sure they hook you up. Hopefully this helps.

Aloha

Hawaiian Island Surf and Sport is a great outfit. I met Lenny about thirty years ago--rented the first high wind windsurf gear I ever used from him when his shop used to be across the street--where the K mart is now I think. Took my first waterstart lesson from Al West who worked his reservations out of Lenny's shop.

They have a pretty big Sup rental fleet now.

Most of the guys (and gals) that work there have been there for decades and they are all serious watermen--extremely helpful and very knowledgeable. I was Sup surfing at Laniupoko the other day and ran into Leo there. He's a really stylish Sup dude and a heck of a nice guy.

Lenny is an accomplished longboard surfer, hangs out on the nose a lot, has a lot of nice moves, but he's switched over to Sup. I haven't seen him on a longboard since I got back to the island. I figured the guys at thousand peaks would brand him a traitor and take away his parking spot, but they seem to have gotten over it.

Hawaiian Island is helping out with the Sup board and Paddle Showcase, taking delivery and storing the boards that are being shipped in. A big favor that I greatly appreciate. Good guys.

Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.
