Good beach for newbie to demo a board, surf in South OC, Cali

Ok, I decided on my first SUP for surf, got a Starboard Hero.  My husband is still trying to decide between the Hero, Mana, or Whopper.  We are looking for a quite beach in So. OC, Cali where he can test the Hero and Mana out in very small waves or even just white water.  Want to get out of the Harbors and see how stable the boards are for him in the chop and white water.  Do not really need any true long surf break, better to have fewer people since we have no clue.

Looking at the cams we were thinking Salt Creek (middle section) might be a nice spot?? Doheny would be close to the demo spot also but everyone says it is rocky, is it rocky near shore or out at the break (we have booties but since I know I will be crashing a lot I do not want to break the board on the first day)?  Any other suggestions?  So. OC would be best and we could easily hop down to Dogpatch if we should just do that?  We will be going tomorrow AM (Tuesday).

Agreed.  Dogpatch is your friend.  You'll catch waves.
