Naish Mana vs Starboard 10.5?
« on: May 23, 2010, 02:54:45 PM »
I've got the Starboard 10.5 and love it but I'm itching for something new, so I was thinking about the Naish Mana.  Does anyone have an opinion about the 10' Mana vs the Starboard?  Me thinks they may be too similar.  Then again, maybe the 10'r is the noseriding machine of my dreams (not to bring that up again...).  Anyway, has anyone ridden both?

BTW/ Does anyone know the *true* volume of the Naish 10' and 9.5?

And then there's the Naish 9.5.  I've had bad experiences w/ boards under 10' -- the Starboard 9.8 swallowtail and the PSH WAA, didn't like either of them, sold them both.  It was a matter of stability (I am really unstable, just ask my girlfriend, ha ha), yaw, glide, and squirrel-lyness on the wave.  I really like a longboard feel, hence my love for the 10.5.  But, if I could duplicate that in a shorter board, with the same stability, yaw friendliness and glide, maybe I'd give that a go.

Thoughts?

BTW/ I'm 175 lbs and have moderate balance issues; anything less stable than the Starboard 10.5 and I'm a man overboard....

Can't go wrong with the Starboard Pocket Rocket 8.5 if you get a chance to try one I would highly suggest it.

You might give the Starboard 9'0" X 30" Converse or 9'1" X 29" Pro a go.
They have the feel and stability you are looking for.

If you like the Drive, you'll like (maybe even love) the Element.  The Element, 9'8" x 30", is almost as stable and super loose.  I have them both, & use the 9'8" as my everyday board.  For more surf + distance paddling, very small or bumpy conditions, I use the 10'5".  I had the Naish 9'6" quad for quite a while, but found it tiring in less than ideal conditions (i.e. chop, backwash, wind, etc.).  I repalced it with the Element, which is just as loose & fun.  Terry

thanks, guys, but i don't like real small boards.  and, i had a first-gen element and didn't like it.  so that's why i was asking about those two naish boards and because i could get a deal on 'em, which has come and gone, btw, with me in the end deciding to stick w/ the 10.5 for the moment.
