Newbie!! Naish 11'6"
« on: May 05, 2010, 05:06:32 AM »
Hi folks...longtime windsurfer looking to buy a sailable SUP....I'm eying either a Starboard 12'2" 26 5/8" thats a leftover 2008....cheap or a Naish 11'6". Is there anyone out there that has sailed either?

I've sailed my 11'6" naish some .Not near as much as my 12' Glide ..The 11'6 is a little slower, a little turnier, rides all the wave s you want..I would guess the 12.2 starboard would be better in bigger breeze as would the glide...
Yes you can carve jibes and ride swells with a great big paddleboard..Way big fun.
Think longboard sailboard if that makes any sense!
I bet PB  will fill you in on the 12'2

Wow - - Someone has a 12'2" still ?

It would be a good board - and if you ever wanted to go in a paddle race the 12'2" is fast (due to it's narrow width)

Thanks Peeps for the responses....as a paddleboard alone would the 12'2" be more tippy than the Naish? I want to do it all! Sail/Paddle/Surf ;D
I have a couple longboards now(Equipe/and a competition) but need to thin the herd in order to get a paddleboard. Used one down in Hattera's last week and am stoked! Did some sailing and paddlesurfing...dream come true

The 12'2" x 26 will be pretty tippy ..faster paddling for sure ..The 11'6 Is one of the most stable easy to ride boards out there.Surfs good. sails good..not a fast board though..I'd try a glide if you get a chance.Probably close in paddle speed to the 12'2" but I'd say more stable at 29 wide..sails great..surfs good in small waves just like the ads say ..

Wait there's more...Get a paddle and use your Mistral compettion. It's about the same as a old Superlight right?260 ltrs of volume 12'6" x about 27 wide .It'll be tippy and fast .Like the 12'2"
I've also paddled my equipe again fast and tippy.
Good luck
BTW both my Naish boards have been bullet proof .After a year of hard use almost everyday. banging around the boat..no repairs no problems. The glide is fancy wood the 11'6" is ast Good strong stuff..
I"ve only briefly paddled a 12'2" but they seem to have a long life also

I've got both, hmmm, actually I have two 11'6" Naishes--both are "Diane's" boards but I've used them a lot. The 11'6" is infinitely easier to get up on and paddle, surfs nicely, and sails very well. Not big on glide, but not bad. Way better beginner board.

The 12'2" will have you despairing that you may never be able to do this sport. You'll be draining water from your sinuses for a few weeks. But it's an amazing intermediate board. Tippy is not the term, they have all the stability of a floating log. But once you master one you'll never let it go. Excellent surfer, excellent windsurfer, very fast, lots of glide. It's probably the most versatile board I own, and I'd never sell mine.

So the answer depends on the dues you're willing to pay. If you have really great balance to begin with, and you're athletic, then the 12'2" is a great choice. If you're not then the 11'6" is a superb board.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

I think they both are to big I would go for the nalu 10'6 or 11'4 carves way better on the wave with or without sail
