Connor's SIC Starboard 14'
« on: April 28, 2010, 12:26:52 AM »
I have seen that a couple of competitors on the Maliko race last weekend were on "Custom" SIC Starboard 14'ers. How do these differ from the Starboard Point or 14'8" factory produced board. Does SIC make these under licence for Starboard or are these just labelled Starboard as they are sponsored Starboard Team SUPers? Any feedback appreciated.
Cheers.
G.

More the other way around. Mark Designed the Point for Starboard. Points are too long for races with a 14' class and they've been discontinued anyway, so I assume Starboard has Mark build special boards for Starboard team riders. Connor is a long-time Starboard rider--for windsurfing. Hugely talented kid--ace windsurfer and surfer--towed in at Jaws when he probably weighed all of 80 pounds. One of a group of insanely talented up and coming Maui kids that includes Slater Trout, Zane Schweitzer, Kai Lenny and many others. Amazing talents honed since they were tadpoles. And all of them are super good kids too--fun to be around.

Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Thanks Pono. I realise The Point has been replaced by a new K14 in the Starboard range which looks specific for flat water racing rather than Downwinders. The "SIC Starboard" that Campbell Farrell was riding in the race was a different beast all-together. It looked like it had a similar nose profile to the SurfRace board in the Starboard range.

It will be interesting to see how things develop in the future. I enjoy your commentary - keep it coming.

Hi G (Kiwi-SUP)

I too have been keeping a keen eye on Starboard for their new downwind board (or range of DW boards).

I get the feeling the new board, with is due out some time this year, will be heavily influenced by the SIC designs and probably designed by Mark and Sven.

On Bills point Hawaii certainly is producing a raft of talented youngsters. Must be somehting in the water over there  ;D

I think you are on the money with your assumptions. Will watch this space to see what comes out. In the mean time I am keen to give the Surf Race a bit of a demo. I am hearing encouraging things about this board. Going to have to save some cash as the carbon boards do not come cheap.
