naish Vs starboard
« on: April 26, 2010, 03:50:40 AM »
hi guys.

i'm a newcomer in Sup.

i have a good background in longboard and i'm an advanced surf kiter.

on my island i have the choice between only 2 brand: Naish and Starboard.

Naish, i'm looking the Nalu 10'6*28 153 L or the Man 9'6*31 190  L

Starboard, the Drive 10'5*30 156 L

i'm a bone with some tendons and a couple of muscles  somewhere.

height 6,17 ft
weight 150 lb

my program is 50/50 cruising and waves (for practice i have an huge lagoon) for quickly 70/30 waves ( most of them are reef break) but still cruising a bit

my questions are

-For you which brand is the strongest (durability) wood veneer on naish look like a good option?
-Do you think the drive offer really more stability with 2" wider rather than the Nalu ( there just 3 liters more on the starboard)
-did you try one of them, which one can you recommend me

thank you for your help and advice.

best regards

snakos

IMO you should choose between the Naish 9'5" Mana and the Starboard 9'8" Element.. Both great brands.. both great boards.

thank's for the advice.

it's a tough thing to choose the right one when you can't try it.

i tried the whooper and found it a bit big.

man and whooper, is it the same kind of board?

thank's for help.

The Naish 9'5 or the Starboard 9'8" are a good apples to apples comparison.
They will both be good in the surf - as flat water boards - not so much.

The Naish 10'6" or Starboard 10'5" would both be better on the flat stuff.

On another note - if you liked the Whopper, but found it too big - take a look at the Hero from Starboard.
9'0" x 33" - great surf board for small to medium waves - for a light guy - - again not the best flat water board out there.

I own boards produced by both brands and IMO the finish on the Starboard is a little bit better. The Naish is still very good but it just seems the Starboard is a little bit harder wearing.
