Second board Imagine Chopper/ Starboard Whopper?
« on: April 15, 2010, 05:28:27 PM »
Need help getting feedback on these two boards. Anyone own or demoed either? I just purchased a Laird 14' Coast Runner for training, fishing and plan to do some recreational racing but need a second board for having fun in the surf-- intermediate surfer. I am 6'3" 195lbs and these are the two leading the pack but would appreciate some feedback. BTW I had a Laird 11'6" for the surf but it was a bit narrow when it gets bumpy, refraction on cliffs etc....

I own the Whopper, its a wide board, super stable, and surfs very well on small waves and even large waves. I love it.

I'd suggest a smaller board.  I weight a little more than you and ride an 8'5 pocket rocket.  My surfing skills reflect a lifetime of surfing, well over 40 years.  The bigger boards are better for cruising but if you want to bang the lip, play in the pocket, lay down a cutback or snap off the bottom you would do better to look at something smaller.  Even my 9'8 fish is to stiff for what I am doing.

Maybe you could borrow or rent before you end up with a quiver looking for the right stick.

I'll be getting the Chopper in a few weeks I can let you know how it feels.  I currently have the new 2010 Enigma 8 6 and it's a great board so far.  Just had a few awesome sessions on it this past week.

I will also get my Imagine demo boards soon. I'm waiting on a 9'10 Chopper, a 10'3 Wave Rocket, among others...  I'm 6'2 205 lbs.

My board is in the container that shipped last week or so.  Can't wait to get out on my board.
