Paddling the Javelin.
« on: April 14, 2010, 10:14:43 AM »
Today I recieved my new 14' Naish Javelin flat water race board.. Here's some pics from today.

It's fast.. It's light.. and it's pretty tippy.

I've taken some vid I just need to upload it to youtube..

From the pics rails look soft and a bit rolled. Not like the 14' glide hard and square. Is the bottom flat like the glide?

Thanks for posting pics DJ... when you say "pretty tippy"... could you elaborate?  Like would it be a handful in rough chop? Thanks.

It is tippy but i did do a DW run yesterday in about 15 to 20 knots and only fell of twice, i'm only 75 kg. You would not buy it as a DW board but in 10 or so knots behind you with a little swell you'll be flying.
Really comes alive in the flat water, i just knocked 7 mins off my best time over 8km. I normaly paddle the DW 14ft Naish or 17ft Naish

nice shape. there are however, some design options on this board that i fail to understand. here are some of them :
the deck is very high and the standing area could certainly do with some recessing.
although the rails are soft, they appear very square instead of round. even in the nose and tail.
most importantly, why is the tail square ? even in your video, when the tail was shown, it clearly showed that the water release off the square tail was not flowing smoothly.
any explanation behind these design options ?

That was my first paddle on the Jav and I was rushing because I had to work later that arvo.

I was standing way too far back.. I started standing centered around the Naish shield on the deck grip and found the tail dragging.. I then moved up so I'm centered around the hand hole.

I've now found that the right place is even further forward so your toes right at the start of the waffle section and almost hanging over onto the smooth part of the grip.

Once in this position the tail release is clean and the nose sits low and lets that piercing nose pierce.

BTW.. I did my first race on it today and took some pics and vid of the race.. I'll post it soon.

Wow, not a lot of rocker. Probably super fast in the flats. Let me know how it performs in different wind conditions.

Looks like they put the carrying hole in the center this time.  :)

Hey DJ Looks like you have some pull with Naish ????

Maybe you can convince them to offer a 14' Glide with the option of fixed fin and a steering system like the S.I.C F14 offers .... that would be one bad ass board if it had a rudder !!!!! A 14' glide with a rudder WOW .  I would buy 2 right now.

Something to work on :)

I agree.. the 14' Glide is a classic board and a future version with a rudder would be good.

Here my vid from yesterdays race with my camera on the nose of the 14' Jav.
