ok boys and girls this is an example of what NOT to do...as a surfer in general(SUP/longboard/shortboard/bodyboard/skimboard/paipo/handboard) this pic makes me want to throw rocks...

1-5 SUPs forming a skirmish line across the top of the point picking off EVERYTHING coming in...

#6 guy is cool though...cruzin the inside by himself taking inbetweeners...not bothering nobody but getting a BAD REP anyway as a result of all the idiots on the outside...

I hope the reality of this picture is one of graciously sharing set waves, casually talking with the crawlers as we take a seat and rest, providing alerts to upcoming sets and not picking off the best waves of every set.

If these 5 paddlers were on long boards there probably wouldn’t be an issue here, but because SUP’s stick out like sore thumbs compared to long and short boarders, we need to be aware of the IMPRESSIONS we are creating. Like it or not, we are easy targets and it requires a certain sensitivity on our part so we don’t alienate ourselves even more.

Exactly what I thought when I saw the pic, bunch of donkeys killing time?, may as well lounge in a swimming pool or hot tub, at least the sup'ers can move on....

if you are at a point break with a crowd i feel  you should never stop moving
people dont like to be boxed in
if you do sit then Sit way over to the side and that means DEEP no shoulder hoping
or on the inside to get all the missed ones
I have gotten proficient at surfing with crowds
we have a huge advantage surfing, so getting where other people aren't on the wave is key low G
Steep takeoffs and throwing buckets will quickly get you some respect also and keep everyone from just burning you
getting the board under 9' is key too....

this is my and Marcelo's regular hangout spot in the summertime...we usually surf the inside section where #6 guy is...hang out there catching inbetweeners all day long... the main lineup doesnt even know we are there...everybody has a great time and there are waves for all even on the 1 foot days...until...

jokers like #1-5 show up, start hogging all the waves and the attitude in the water goes right down the toilet...

Want to get some instant respect, paddle out on your SUP, sit down along side the pack and then tell the other wave hogs on SUP's that it might be a good idea to leave some waves for the surfers. Then proceed to let plenty of waves  go bye before even thinking about taking a one. Watch what happens with the crawlers then. For me when I see SUP wave hogs out in the lineup, its a golden opportunity to earn some respect while at the same time sending a positive message to the prones. Often I will even block out a wave hog SUP to allow a surfer to go. NOBODY LIKES  A WAVE HOG!!! I have actually had prones appluad me out in the water for doing this. Sometimes I feel like the SUP Police out on the water but someone needs to step up to the plate.

I usually surf there when it is crappy at my other favorite spots (i.e. too windy). I usually go to 2nd point and catch the waves the shortboarders let pass.  Only time I had aggro was the one time I tried to catch a wave at 3rd point.  Now I see why.

Steamroller, last thursday and friday i surfed 2nd and 3rd point for almost a whole hr just by myself, every body was surfing on 1st and i kept seeing waves braking all alone...moved a little from the crowd and enjoyed a great session ALONE.

Rolland, nice paddling with you,the dolphins were really cool treat.
